From the Pastor's Desk
 Then and Now
During our anniversary celebration on Sunday we viewed a slideshow which featured highlights of our life here together at Zion. It also featured selected pictures from our past.
One of my favorite juxtapositions in the slideshow was a photograph of the choir in the early 1950's (with Ernee Peebles directing) followed by a contemporary picture of the Voices of Zion. Viewing these pictures together in this way, a viewer might sense that the voices of ages past continue to sing through the voices of those present in the loft today. While not one of the members of Zion's choir from over fifty years ago sings with us today, the communion of saints and the voices of the past and the present were evident at Zion on Sunday. While Erv Miller and Fred Ufferman were not physically present on Sunday, it was impossible not to feel their presence. When I saw that three persons worshipping with us on Sunday afternoon came into the sanctuary in wheelchairs, I thought immediately of Fred's efforts building up our Endowment Fund and Erv's efforts guiding construction of the church elevator. In a very real way, Fred and Erv are still extending Zion's extravagant welcome by having made our sanctuary accessible to all persons. We honor those who have helped to build this place of worship. It is incumbent upon us, just as it was upon them, to preserve this safe and welcoming place for those who will follow. That not only means sharing our time, our talent and our treasure but it also means letting the Holy Spirit open our hearts that Jesus might enter and help us to become the persons God calls upon us to be. In this way, God's Spirit will let us know in which direction we are headed. We are headed into the future but it is helpful, on occasion, to honor our past. It is not possible to know where we are going if we don't know where we have been. In Christ, Pastor Pete

JOY!!!
In a nutshell, the word "JOY" comes to mind as the best way to describe Zion's 175th Anniversary celebration last Sunday. What a joyful time it was to welcome friends from past and present, to have our community partners join us, to hear Voices of Zion sing "We Are the Church of God" in such a moving way, to honor the dedication of Ernee Peebles & Marilyn Vernon, and of course to enjoy some delicious cake! Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating this special milestone in Zion's history.

Family Promise
Pathway to Success! Help Family Promise build a "pathway to success" for homeless families with their personalized brick fundraiser. The bricks will be used to create a paved walkway for the new 24-hour location at 39 N. Washington Street.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for the renovation of the building through a partnership with Delaware County Habitat for Humanity.
Brick order forms are in the back of the sanctuary at Zion or can be found online at .
This would be a great way to honor someone this Christmas!
