CAP to Host Adoption Certification Classes July 2015

Children Awaiting Parents will host our first-ever MAPP (Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting) training class for adoption certification/approval this July! Our first class starts Wednesday, July 15th at 6-9pm. For more information and to register, please contact Children Awaiting Parents: 585-232-5110

Each year, CAP successfully recruits hundreds of local families interested in adopting older youth. For the past 43 years, we have had to refer families interested in adopting waiting youth to other agencies. Many families have been waiting for us to have the ability to follow them through the entire adoption process. Our team of foster care adoption specialists are uniquely qualified to prepare families to meet the complex needs of older youth in foster care. We are eager to provide additional services to families and children in the Western, NY area and increase adoptions for waiting youth!

Success Story: The Bishop Remmington Family

Rick Bishop and Victoria Remmington found their daughter Cassie through CAP's website and adopted her at age 17. They say it was meant to be. Cassie was living in a group home and deeply wanted to be adopted, but Victoria says they are the ones who feel like they were saved, "We were lost and she found us."

Message from the Executive Director
Charles Reaves

On Friday, May 1st, CAP held its first special event of the year, the CAP Derby modeled after the Kentucky Derby. For all those who helped make this a success, I want to say a heartfelt- thank you. Not only was this our kickoff event for the year, it was the first time CAP organized an event of this kind. I think what impressed me the most, aside from the event itself, was how hard the staff and volunteers worked to make this a success. Having great staff is key to any endeavor, having the support of a great group of volunteers is paramount.

So once again, on behalf of myself an all the attendees please accept my appreciation for a job well done. For those who missed it, hope to see at the races next year!

Adoption Specialist

Youth and Family Alternatives
CAP builds partnerships with county departments of social services across the U.S. to list waiting youth on our site. We know that when caseworkers believe their children can be adopted they stand a much better chance of finding a family. We would like to recognize a special caseworker who has listed a youth on her caseload with CAP and advocated tirelessly for her  to find a family. Cindy Jansen, from Youth and Family Alternatives in  Brandenton, FL has not lost hope that a child she works with will be adopted.  Even though the child she has listed with CAP has unique challenges, she strongly believes there is a family out there for her. Cindy has gone above and beyond to carefully consider each family CAP finds to be sure they are a good fit for the waiting youth. We would like to thank Cindy for her passion and commitment for the children she works with. We also congratulate Cindy on the recent birth of her child!
