AXE FRIENDS
NEW EDMONTON CHAMBER PRESIDENT/CEO

James Cumming

James Cumming recently took over the reins of the office of President/CEO of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce following the departure of Martin Salloum who retired after 19 years.  Mr. Cumming is a lifelong Edmontonian who graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology building construction technology program and went on to lead Creative Door Services, Courtenay Real Estate Services, Princeton Developments and Cormode & Dickson Construction.

Cumming retired from Edmonton-based Creative Door Services as an owner and CEO in January. He also chairs NAIT's board of governors, serves on the Norlien Foundation board and was national chair for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.

LIVE EVENT TIPS

A good way to control the dynamics of a live event is to separate the production process into 2 categories.  The first is comprised of the production technology and all the crew who run lights, sound, video and special effects.  The second category is stage management.  This involves stage hands, stage managers, wranglers, hosts and anyone else associated with what is actually happening on the stage.  It is important to plan out the way these 2 groups communicate during the event. Some will use live coms, which are, essentially, 2 way radios. This allows the stage manager to communicate with the Front-of-House (FOH) crew. Sometimes, a show director will provide cues either from the side of the stage or from the FOH control centre.
