I love to help customers find just the right window treatment solution. It can make all the difference in the feel and function of the room. It can make your space more livable, functional, and beautiful.
Here are some thoughts you need to consider when you are solving your window treatment challenges.
Function and Decoration
Window treatments are a necessity in your home. Privacy, light control, and comfort control are very important issues to solve. And you can have these functional treatments and still make a statement or you can keep them minimal. A stunning fabric or dramatic shade color can give you a lift in that special room. Or subtle but soft colors and fabrics can make the room look lovely. Decide first what function you need, then you can combine that with a decorative element.
Light Control
One definition of light control could be not letting any light in the room. This can allow you to sleep longer or to keep your TV watching room as dark as a theater. Light control can also be defined as diffusing the light that comes through the window treatment so it is not sharp or harsh. Hunter Douglas Silhouette® shadings and Duette® Architella® shades are good choices when you want the light filtered. Most all of the shades have an optional room darkening lining or Mylar insert to keep out all light.
Privacy
Don't confuse privacy with room darkening. And don't think you can get shades that you can see out and through but no one can ever see in.
Room darkening shades are private. But so are light filtering shades. Light filtering shades - sometimes called semi-opaque - let you have light in the room when the shades are down controlling the temperature, privacy and fading.
Screen shades allow you to control the sun and heat inside but still let you see outside - during the day. Remember you see towards the light source. So if it is light outside, you can still see outside. But if it is dark outside and you have the lights on in the house, someone can see you in your house - towards the light. These are not bedroom shades!
Camouflaging flaws
Window treatments can camouflage windows that are different heights in the same room. And they can help balance windows that are unevenly placed in a room. Note the difference in the look of the room once the window treatment is added. You can make panels wider, mount rods higher, or add a valance to hide those architectural flaws.
