The Flying Geeks Rock Bike to Work Week

My Tech Guys had an EPIC bike to work week with over 147Km logged, led by their fearless leader Bob Wells at nearly 52km - and most trips ended with cycling up 6th Street East pulling his son Quinny on his trailer bike (not to mention carrying booster seats and extra swim bags etc).

Congrats to everyone that made the extra effort to get out on their bikes and hope you had as much fun as we did!!!

Computers are like light bulbs.  Eventually it is going to die.  Replacing the computer is the easy part, it is all the data (photos, business information, and documents) that can take days or weeks to reproduce and may be irreplaceable.

Far too often someone brings in a dead computer and the first thing we ask for is the backup.  And far too often people and businesses have no backup at all, or it is outdated and backing up old information.

Rather than have the pain of losing important information, have the pleasure of having one our friendly geeks come out and setup a backup for you.  The software we use emails an update every week to let you know if there are any issues and sends out critical emails when backups are failing.  We can even monitor your backups for you and put you on our Friendly Reminder Program.

For more information please call 250-338-4411.

Beware Windows 10 Upgrade Pop-Ups

alt

If you are lucky like me you got a cool pop up this morning telling you about the Windows 10 release. We are excited about the release of Windows 10 that will happen on July 29, 2015. But beware, we are geeks that have fun messing up our computers with new operating systems, but most people will find it a bit disorienting and possibly frustrating if their operating system suddenly changed.  And that's only if it works properly.  Operating system updates are major changes and we highly recommend making sure you have a very good backup prior to updating.  It is not always as easy as 1, 2, 3  :-)

Congrats, Michelle & Bob on 15 years
Bob and Michelle were married in their hometown Salmon Arm on beautiful Shuswap Lake 15 years ago. They have had amazing adventures starting with a honeymoon in South Africa.

Moving to Victoria, Bob went to UVic and employed by Shaw, while Michelle completed her degree as a dental hygienist. Finding Victoria too busy they moved to the Comox Valley finding more opportunity for employment. BobandMichelle

Bob taught at Excel Career College and after three years started My Tech Guys while Michelle was beginning her new career as a dental hygienist. 8 years ago Michelle had twins, Megan and Connor, in Victoria. Quinn came as a surprise 4 years later.

As if life was not challenging enough Bob decided to become councilor for the city of Courtenay. Michelle loves river fishing and jigging for cod and Bob has a love for sailing and cycling. Together they enjoy their beautiful family with boating trips to Cortes Island.

You have come a long way, baby!!

Happy 15th anniversary Bob and Michelle

Updates, Don't Forget

Most of us are familiar with the little pop-ups we get asking us to install updates.  While they only take a few minutes to complete, many of us are guilty of postponing them or just ignoring them completely. But keeping up with these computer updates is actually very important when it comes to having a healthy and secure computer. These updates are just as important as having an anti-virus program. Sometimes the automagic updates can fail so we suggest checking to make sure you have the latest versions of the following once a month.

Some of the most common updates are:
