1st Anniversary of the End of XP
WindowsXP It's been 1 year now since Microsoft has closed the door on one of the best Operating Systems (OS) out there, Windows XP.

And we just wanted to take this anniversary to remind everyone that we can help with this transition. We sell new computers that run Windows 7, so you don't have to go with Windows Hate (Windows 8).  We also help with backups of your personal information as your are more open to issues when running an out of date OS.

So if you are someone you know is still running this abandoned OS, give us a call today or stop into one of our 2 conveniently located stores to talk to a geek today about your options.

Y.A.N.A. Support

YANA Support Another amazing year for the amazing folks at Y.A.N.A. and the geeks at My Tech Guys, this past year we have personally raised over $500 through some of our events and with our phone charging tent that we have at events like Musicfest, the Comox Air Show and many others.

We were also very proud to provide the technical support at Y.A.N.A.'s yearly fundraiser auction, thanks to Bob Wells and all his hard work for that while being sick mind you too!

Here is a picture of our office geek, Bryan Tisdale and Y.A.N.A. executive director, Marcie Dumais and My Tech Guys owner, Bob Wells presenting our big bag of coins that we collect at last year's Musicfest from our phone charging tent.

Power outages kill SSD Drives

SSD "For now, we recommend SSD users be particularly careful not to risk unexpected power failures. There appears to be no way to minimize the problem, no specific drive has been put forth as ironclad, and even using SLC and super capacitors does not prevent corruption" says My Tech Guys owner, Bob Wells

This is even more important for people building servers as the data tends to be more critical and the possibility of a power outage or even a failing UPS could cause extreme havoc and stress.

Updates, Don't Forget

Most of us are familiar with the little pop-ups we get asking us to install updates.  While they only take a few minutes to complete, many of us are guilty of postponing them or just ignoring them completely. But keeping up with these computer updates is actually very important when it comes to having a healthy and secure computer. These updates are just as important as having an anti-virus program. Sometimes the automagic updates can fail so we suggest checking to make sure you have the latest versions of the following once a month.

Some of the most common updates are:
