Windstorms Kill Computers
After all the phone calls we have received on our emergency line due to the  windstorms I thought I should send along a few tips for people during this windy season.

After every power outage we see a large increase in dead computers as well as other electronic equipment such as routers, printers, TVs and theatre components.  Electronic equipment can easily be replaced after it has been fried, but data on computers is sometimes lost - which can include family pictures, documents and even business information. Lost data causes the most stress, as years of photos disappearing can erase the only record of many precious moments or business data affecting accounting and customer information.  Recovering data from dead hard drives can be time consuming and expensive.

Extreme Geek Gets A Cute Appendicitis

Back on September 29 Bob Wells, The Extreme Geek, went to emergency at St Joe's in Comox thinking he had a bad flu or food poisoning.   Turns out it was an Acute Appendicitis and within hours he was under the knife getting the little bugger cut out.  Within 24 hours he was good to go home where he has been recuperating for the past few weeks.

His recovery has been slow but he should be back to his old self in the next month or so.  Bob is hanging out at the Courtenay and Comox stores (something he normally doesn't do) trying not to exert himself too much.  If you need to contact Bob or were expecting him to contact you he is now getting caught up on his emails and you can send a message HERE.
Updates, Don't Forget

Windows 8 Service Pack 1 is now out, that is the biggest update to Windows 8 since its release a year ago.  We'll have more on this next month but you can read up on it here

Most of us are familiar with the little pop-ups we get asking us to install updates.  While they only take a few minutes to complete, many of us are guilty of postponing them or just ignoring them completely. But keeping up with these computer updates is actually very important when it comes to having a healthy and secure computer. These updates are just as important as having an anti-virus program. Sometimes the auto-magic updates can fail so we suggest checking to make sure you have the latest versions of the following once a month.

Some of the most common updates are:

If you have any questions or feel its been awhile since you've done any updates, call us and book a in-home service call or remote service call 250-890-1065
