Your Employees Are Probably Job Hunting Right Now
(By Venessa Wong for Bloomberg Businessweek)
It's Tuesday, which means there's a good chance some of your employees already have looked for another job this week. Data provided to Businessweek.com from job sites (Indeed.com, Glassdoor.com, and Simplyhired.com) show that Mondays and Tuesdays are peak times for job hunting. Now might be a good time for worried managers to treat the office to pizza.Workers aren't confining job searches to their off hours. On Simplyhired.com, U.S. searches peak on Mondays around 11 a.m. Weekly Web searches on Indeed.com also peak on Mondays around 11 a.m., and the daily peak on other weekdays tends to be around that time as well. Based on IP addresses, there's plenty of traffic from office computers, says Chris Hyams, Vice President of Product at Indeed. "This does dispel the idea that people try to hide this from their employers by using a mobile device," says Hyams. "We definitely see people searching from places of employment. There's no question that this is not just people sitting at home." In fact, in a recent survey by career management firm Right Management, 74 percent of workers said they explore job sites during the workday. Another bump occurs in the evening. The average peak time for searches on Glassdoor.com is Tuesdays at 9 p.m. in each time zone. In addition, searches on Indeed.com from mobile devices-which represents about one-third of total traffic-peaks on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. local time. The desire for self-improvement generally tends to be strongest at the start of the week, when people also are more likely to eat salad, start diets and excerise regimens, and quit smoking. After the weekend, reenergized employees feel more motivated, says Scott Dobroski, a Glassdoor spokesman. "By the end of the week, many of us ... are so tired from the work week that we just want to relax and get to the weekend as fast as we can," he says.

3 Surefire ways to Shorten your Job Search By Huffington Post
CHICAGO, IL -- Before the depth of the recession in 2007 and 2008, ExecuNet found the expected time in job search was under 10 months. It began to elongate through 2012 and now job seekers are hopeful that it will drop to just under the one-year mark again. To shorten your job search time, here are three tips:
Use job boards for research; use your network to find and create roles. Learn about hiring trends and growth patterns from watching what your target companies are posting on job boards. Ask for referrals from your network to contact company decision-makers and request informational meetings to learn more about what's happening on the inside. Be "recruiter-ready." Even though job seekers told ExecuNet they would be motivated to look for a new job if they got viable calls from recruiters, the recruiters told us that fewer executives are returning their calls! Keep your resume up-to-date, know your unique value proposition, and have a clear understanding of your market value and you'll be ready for every conversation with recruiters.
Get social. Now. Roughly one-quarter of people placed into companies by search firms in 2012 were originally identified or contacted through a social network. If you don't have an online presence, you've just decreased your chances of being found for your dream job. If you don't have online profiles filled with the right keywords to attract opportunity, get professional help.

You need Sunscreen on a cloudy day too!
Question: I know that it's a good idea to wear sunscreen on sunny days and when I am on the beach. But what if the sun is not out, should I still use sunscreen?
Answer: The sun, not time, is our skin's greatest adversary. While time causes chronological aging, the sun causes "photo-aging."
The sun's rays lead to more than 80 percent of the changes that result in wrinkles, age spots, dilated blood vessels, spider veins, red bumps, growths, and raised dark spots.
And it doesn't take much sun to do it. A 1997 article in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that only minutes of exposure here and there accumulate over the years can lead to premature skin aging.
There are two types of damaging sun rays: Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B.
Ultraviolet B rays (UVB), causes superficial and immediate skin damage by irritating the melanocytes in the bottom layer of the outer skin.
Depending on the degree of irritation, we either get a tan or a burn.
Ultraviolet A rays (UVA), penetrates more deeply into the skin.
These rays are a product not just of direct sun but of all natural light, capable of reaching the skin through glass, clouds and smog.
In other words, there is no such thing as a sunless day.
Not all sunscreens are created equal. You need to block both UVB and UVA rays. Look for the term "broad-spectrum" on the label; this means it blocks both UVB and UVA rays. Products containing zinc oxide,
titanium dioxide or parsol 1789 are broad spectrum.
The minimum sun-protection factor, or SPF, for daily wear, should be at least 15. Since sunscreen begins to work 30 minutes after it goes on, apply it well before venturing outdoors. Even waterproof sunscreen loses its effectiveness within 90 minutes. If you sweat or swim, re-apply sunscreen often. Don't be stingy - apply sunscreen to all exposed skin.
If you want your skin to look good, cover it up. Do not walk out the door without protecting all exposed skin from the sun's visible and
invisible rays.
