SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE FOR CHIRO MISSION:

As the new school year approaches, St. Stephen's is again collecting school supplies for the Chiro Mission in the Dominican Republic. The students there are Haitian refugees, thus they are not supported like the usual DR students. The school there is always short on supplies, and as many as seven students share a pencil.

The mission staff tell us that this year they are especially in need of laptops, notebooks, pens, pencils and backpacks. There will be a mission distribution on September 28, so we plan to collect all donations and send them as of September 13.

We will put baskets for collection in the sanctuary, and donations may also be made at the parish office. Please remember these students when you do your back-to-school shopping, or when sorting through office supplies. We welcome all donations!

The planter on our front steps is always a lovely seasonal display, thanks to the generosity and green thumb
of Kay Anderson.

Send us a vacation photo for the Touchstone!

FOOD PANTRY: Our next date to staff the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry is on Tuesday, August 18. This is a time of year when many families are away and volunteers are scarce. Please consider volunteering from 4:45 to 7:15. You can let Laura Desmarais know you will join in by emailing her at [email protected].

PRACTICE USING YOUR PRAYER MUSCLES: Prayer is the practice of having a conversation with God. But how do we develop this ability, to learn to speak to God, or know when he is speaking to us? Starting in September, Father Nils will be in church each weekday morning for daily prayer, and seeks a couple of people to join him each day for Morning Prayer. This commitment need not be time consuming -- it could once every week or two -- and it will give us all more practice in praying, and make us more aware of God's presence in our lives. Please sign up by clicking here.
