St. Stephen's Weekly Touchstone
The Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost
November 16, 2014

Each year our town joins together in a Thanksgiving ecumenical service. This year the service will be held at Congregation B'nai Yisrael at the corner of Route 22 and Banksville Road in Armonk. The service will be held on Tuesday 25 November at 8 pm.  This is always a warm service of shared thanks. Please join us as we come together in community a week from Tuesday.

Mustering in front of St. Stephen's, the Boy Scouts prepare for the Veteran's Day flag burning ceremony at the American Legion Post across the street.

The scouts pictured should look familiar, as they are all parishioners at St. Stephen's.

Announcements at St. Stephen's Church

HOLIDAY SHARING DRIVE: Once again this year, St. Stephens will be participating in the Annual Holiday Sharing Drive sponsored by the Junior League of Northern Westchester.  Working with community agencies, the JLNW provides donors the opportunity to help local families by supplying them with food and gifts to help them celebrate the holiday season.  We have received the profiles of three families in need, each of which has four or five family members.  Please consider taking one or two members and providing them with at least an item or two from their list.  Gift cards to supermarkets, Kohl's or Target are also needed.  The sign up sheet and information is on the piano in the sanctuary.  We ask that you deliver to St. Stephen's any items purchased by Sunday morning, November 30th.  This early deadline allows the Junior League time to organize the distribution for this huge effort. Feel free to contact Trina Fontaine at [email protected] or 765-0395 with any questions.

FRIENDSHIP SUPPER: Our upcoming Friendship Supper at the home of Laura and John Desmarais is this Friday,  November 14 at 7 pm. Please join us for fellowship, food and drink. This pot luck meal is a wonderful chance to get to know fellow parishioners in a relaxed environment. The house is family friendly, and children are welcome. Let Laura Johnson know at [email protected] how many are coming and what you will bring: appetizer, side dish, main course, beverage or dessert.

ANNUAL OUTREACH MEETING: The annual meeting of our Outreach Committee will take place after the Sunday service on November 23. At this meeting, the committee will decide how to distribute this year's collections to various local charities. New members are welcome. If you're interested and want to hear more, speak to a committee member -- Laura Desmarais, Trina Fontaine, Laura Johnson, Ray Pouder, Charity Lunder Carolyn Billet or Sue Brown. Please email Laura Desmarais if you'd like to join at [email protected].

FROSTY PARADE DAY: The annual Armonk Frosty the Snowman celebration and Parade will take place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 29.  St. Stephen's will march in the Frosty Parade, carrying our red banner which hangs in the sanctuary. We will also hold a bake sale outside of the church, from 4 - 6 pm, to raise funds for biliary cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering. We need parishioners, especially our youth, to contribute to the bake sale. We need volunteers to help with set up and clean up. And we encourage all members of the parish and their friends to march in the parade at 4 pm. Please sign up in the parish hall for the bake sale. And join us in the parade. Speak to Trina Fontaine ([email protected]) and Laura Desmarais ([email protected]) for more information.

SEEKING VESTRY MEMBERS: In January two current vestry members will be ending their terms. Have you thought about serving on the vestry? It's a great way to learn more about the church, while applying your business judgement, personal skills and inspiration in a new venue. If you are interested, or wonder what this might entail,  speak to our Wardens, Annlee Milani and Carol Mortell, or our Vestry members, Laura Johnson, Laura Desmarais, Sharon Kane, Trina Fontaine, Doug Campbell and Charity Lunder.
