About 85 Percent of Schools Show Growth

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) increased the District Performance Score to a record high of 92.9. Since 2007, the improved academic achievement can be seen in the 20.6 jump in the district's score. The released scores show 85 percent of EBRPSS schools showed performance growth. In addition, 90 percent of EBRPSS schools passed the Subgroup Component, and a third of the schools received the Top Gains Label from the state. According to the 2012 DPS results released by the Louisiana State Department of Education October 22, the school district performed so well, it went from a D grade last year to a C grade this year.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School District has held a series of community forums for parent, student and community input and opinions in recent months on the district's proposal to create four regional attendance zones for "families" of schools. Already, forums have been held in the Capitol, Glen Oaks, Scotlandville and Woodlawn communities. Now it's the Northeast region's turn.

Mck Blue Ribbon

On Tuesday, November 13, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school's Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School's National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education's Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel.
