May  2015

May, and among the miles of leafing,

blossoms storm out of the darkness-

windflowers and moccasin flowers.

The bees dive into them and I too, to gather

their spiritual honey. Mute and meek, yet theirs

is the deepest certainty that this existence too-

this sense of well-being, the flourishing

of the physical body-rides

near the hub of the miracle that everything

is a part of, is as good

as a poem or a prayer, can also make

luminous any dark place on earth.

NEW - Our 5-Day Silent Retreat
Wednesday July 8 - Sunday July 12, 2015

In an atmosphere of silence, take time to let yourself rest, reflect, and be restored. This retreat is offered in response to those who want a silent retreat experience that is shorter than 8 days.

A silent retreat is more than the absence of talking.

It is choosing to pay attention to the still small voice within

so that deep communion with the Divine can happen. Retreatants spend personal time learning to honour their own rhythm

which might include journaling, reading, swimming, walking, reflecting, and creative activities. Sometimes people come

with an issue with which they are grappling, but many come

just to be. Some choose to meet daily with a spiritual director

for guidance in their prayer and meditation.

A private room and meals will be provided.
Evening reflection offered (optional).

In The Company of Women...

At Maryholme...
The Flowering Almond is in Bloom!
Our Flowering Almond puts on a spectacular show for us
every spring here at Maryholme. And we in the office
get to enjoy it the most, as its lovely branches sway in the breeze right outside our window ...

Native to China, Flowering Almond bushes produce masses
of pink flowers early in the spring. Their breathtaking display gives us a glimpse of the lovely array of colours
that will be showing themselves in our gardens,
as spring unfolds in this sacred space...

A round of applause for Sr. Mary for winning First Prize
at our local gardeners club for the Pasque Flower
she submitted from the lovely grounds
of Loretto Maryholme.

The Maryholme Mink....
This past month we had some repairs done under Blackbird Cabin, only to discover a mound of crayfish shells, all very tidily arranged in a wonderful pile. It seems our elusive resident mink has been dining on seafood in his own private dining area for quite some time now! He will surely
be quite sorry to discover that his dining room is now permanently closed, since the repairs were completed!

We are posting a picture of one of his relatives, in hopes
that one of our guests may recognize our tidy fella scampering  along the shore this summer, and snap
a picture of him to share with our readers!

Time For Reconciliation...

5 Things you can do anywhere in Canada
For Truth and Reconciliation from May 29 - June 3
