End of Grade (EOG) Test Date Changes
Recently passed legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly has had an impact on the state and federal testing guidelines for students this year. In previous years, we would conduct our end of the year testing around the third week of May. The new guidelines, however, require that all testing be completed during the last 10 days of school. Therefore, the CMS testing window this year is May 23-June 10. Due to these changes the following testing schedule has been created in order to complete all required testing at an appropriate time to allow for scoring and retesting:

3rd Grade:
  • Friday, May 23 - EOG Math Test
  • Tuesday, May 27 - EOG Reading Test
  • Friday, May 30 - Retest (if needed)
  • Friday, June 6 - Read to Achieve Benchmark (if needed)

4th Grade:

  • Wednesday, May 28 - EOG Reading Test
  • Thursday, May 29 - EOG Math Test
  • Monday, June 2 - Social Studies Common Exam
  • Tuesday, June 2 - Science Common Exam

5th Grade:

  • Friday, May 23 - EOG Science Test
  • Wednesday, May 28 - EOG Reading Test
  • Thursday, May 29 - EOG Math Test

Please contact Mr. Potter at s.potter@cms.k12.nc.us for any questions.

Let Me Run 5K
Congratulations to the DES Dragons who completed the Let Me Run Springfest 5K on May 17th!

Let Me Run is a FUN, 7 week program for boys in grades 4th through middle school and is facilitated by trained coaches from your community.  The program meets twice a week for about an hour and boys learn about building healthy relationships through a myriad of FUN activities that also improve personal strength, endurance and overall wellness. Let Me Run culminates when the boys run a 5k road race and celebrate their new friendships. Look for registration information in the fall!

Win SPARK Party For Your Class!
Summer is just around the corner and it's time for SPARK Summer Reading and Math Program!

Students should have received their SPARK contracts and sponsorship forms in Wednesday folders last week and rising Kindergartners should have received theirs with their Beginner's Day materials. We want to have all those SPARK contracts turned in so we are offering several exciting contests!

The Dragon House that turns in the largest percentage of SPARK contracts will be honored at our June Dragon House Assembly.  In addition, the class in each grade who turns in the highest percentage of SPARK contracts will win a class party the last week of school! SPARK forms are due on May 28th!
