Dear Collaborative Colleague,

We are pleased to bring you Volume 2013/3 of the CP Cal Newsletter, the electronic newsletter of Collaborative Practice California.
Letter from the President
by Fred Glassman, JD

Dear Collaborative Practitioners:

The final performance of Broadway's newest and greatest hit show, better known as "CELEBRATION 8," took place at the Manhattan Beach Marriott theatre over the weekend of April 26-28, 2013. Following record-breaking curtain calls by the entire cast of presenters, a resounding standing ovation from the audience (attendees) took place. The rave reviews are now in!  Let me share with you a few comments from those who were fortunate enough to have attended our CP Cal show:

  • The enthusiasm of the participants and quality of the presentations were helpful to re-energize me and make me want to improve my skills further and work to support the movement
  • I learned new things to increase my skills, to fulfill my continuing education needs and vision, and to recharge professional enthusiasm
  • Expanded knowledge and skills, reconnected with respected colleagues, renewed commitment, got inspired
  • Fabulous conference, as always!
  • The programs were well presented
  • I enjoyed the opportunity to network, build relationships, share the spirit of peace building
  • I liked the manner of presentation and the materials and personalities of the presenters
  • The trainings were of a very high quality
  • I valued the experiences with my colleagues and seeing the spread and development of the movement
  • Great conference!  Thank you!

Although this show has closed, the revival is coming back next year as "CELEBRATION 9" in April of 2014 at the San Francisco Airport Westin.  Tickets are not on sale yet. So don't try to jam the phone lines at Ticketmaster. Just stay tuned for future announcements, including cast members, song and dance numbers (workshops and plenaries).

Your enthusiastic and hardworking Board of Directors is gearing up for its annual CP Cal retreat in July when we will consider your suggestions generated from Celebration 8. We will also put together ideas to not only maintain the momentum for Collaborative Practice but also embrace innovative thoughts before testing the waters in the Collaborative community. We will keep you posted!

Remember my door is always open to talk.  So feel free to call me.

Take care,

Fred

Report on Celebration 8

The Board was treated to a rollicking report on Celebration 8. We had 160 paid registrants. Our fundraising committee broke its prior records, and collected more than $41,000 from sponsors, the silent auction, and raffle. Thanks to the social media committee, many of us are now official tweeters!

The evaluation forms were overwhelmingly positive about the facility, the programming, the valuable content of the workshops and pre-conference institutes, and most of all, the networking and fun we all had over the weekend.  Among the comments were:

"I was able to connect with colleagues I do not see on a regular basis, and was able to learn from some interesting seminars."

"The speakers and venue were excellent as well as mingling with collaborators!"

"The enthusiasm of the participants and quality of the presentations were helpful to re-energize me and make me want to improve my skills further and work to support the movement."

For any of you who were unable to attend this year, audio recordings are available (see info in sidebar, above right), and please don't miss Celebration 9, scheduled for April 25-27, 2014 at the West San Francisco Airport. Co-chairs of that event will be Natalie Leininger and Lisa Zonder.  Put this event on your calendars now and join us for the fun and learning!
