Greetings TCC Student!
Summer classes are right around the corner and there's still time to get enrolled. Just in time for summer classes, the DoD has announced that tuition assistance funding has been restored to all branches of the military. Read about that and other important military education news in this month's newsletter. You'll also hear about a new service called Perfect Interview and learn about the ROTC program at TCC.
Please take a look over the Summer Academic calendar to make sure you are on track and meeting deadlines this semester.

Tuition Assistance Returns:
The DoD announces reinstatement of tuition assistance to all branches of the military. Read more about this story here.
Free Concert for Military:
May 11th at the NTELOS wireless pavilion in Portsmouth, VA the Lt. Dan Band will be playing a concert that will be FREE to all military and their families. Visit the website for more information.
Summer Classes Registration:
Summer classes will begin May 20th and registration runs through the first day of class. Don't forget to get your tuition assistance paperwork processed in advance. Check out the summer 2013 schedule.

ROTC at TCC
 TCC offers Navy and Army ROTC programs. ROTC classes can be taken as electives while earning your degree and there is no commitment to joining the military when you're done with school. However, there are many scholarship opportunities for those looking to join ROTC. Find out more on the TCC website.

Perfect Interview
TCC is pleased to announce that students now have access to Perfect  Interview™. This website is provided for the exclusive use of the students, faculty, and staff of Tidewater Community College.
Perfect Interview™ is an innovative learning tool that can be used to enhance job interviewing skills, create resumes, and search for jobs. Perfect Interview™ creates a compelling and realistic "simulated interview" experience where users are asked challenging questions and must respond, just as they would in a real job interview.

Once you have access the link above, you will see instructions for creating a user account. Upon creating an account, an email will be mailed with the user ID and password. You can then use that ID and password to log on to Perfect Interview Online from any location.

Funding a College Education - Upcoming Workshops
The Virginia Tidewater Consortium's Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) will conduct college financial aid briefings, "Funding a College Education," at Naval Station Norfolk and JEB Little Creek. Hosted by the Navy College Offices.
The upcoming schedule is as follows:
Naval Station Norfolk:
DATE: Wednesday 19 June 2013, START TIME: 1130,
LOCATION: Navy College, building IE, in the Navy College classroom.
Areas Covered:
-College selection and application process
-Federal aid (grants, loans, work study, etc)
-State aid programs
-FAFSA, plus financial aid applications, procedures, & processing
-Scholarship 101-survive the scholarship search and application process
-Guest speakers-Local scholarship representatives
-Other various areas/items of concern, and a Question and Answer session
Each session includes information that will assist rising high school JUNIORS & SENIORS, parents of all high school students, adult learners opting to return to college later in life, plus all others who may be facing the rising expenses of college in the very near future. High school students are welcome to attend with their parents, however we do not encourage creating a negative impact on their school attendance or classroom requirements.
Open to:
-All military personnel (active or reserve)
-Retirees
-Family members
-Other base employees/personnel, including DOD civilian employees
Normal base access is required; no special base pass arrangements will be made for this program by the Navy College Office or the VTC/EOC representative.
One-on-one appointments can be scheduled with an EOC counselor following the presentation.

Tuesday, July 30, is the make-up day for Thursday, July 4, and represents the final Thursday of the Summer ten-week session. |
Note: Students who wish to withdraw without academic penalty should contact a counselor to determine the appropriate procedure and date. Withdrawals through completion of sixty percent of a session will result in a Wgrade. After sixty percent of a session is completed, a withdrawal will result in a grade of F in a credit course or a grade of U in a developmental course, except under mitigating circumstances that must be documented by the instructor and approved by the academic dean.
Dynamic Session classes have unique refund and withdrawal dates. Please contact the Enrollment Services Office for procedures and date.
