For the Love of Gardens Lecture on June 4 at Sonnenberg Gardens (history lecture)
Mary Clark Thompson and her husband Frederick were the original owners of the Sonnenberg Estate. Many of its 100 year-old gardens were designed to Mary's wishes. Sonnenberg historian and archivist, Barbara Stahl, will share the inspirations and motivations that led Mary to create a Sonnenberg that today sees 35,000 people visiting annually to stroll through and enjoy its many beautiful gardens. The lecture will focus on letters, diaries, and other correspondence so Mary's own words about her inspiration can be heard.
The lecture will be held at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park's Carriage House in Canandaigua on Saturday, June 4 at 10 am. Registration for the lecture is $20/person and $15/Sonnenberg members. Admission to Sonnenberg Gardens is included in the registration fee. FLCC offers prep course for notary exam
Finger Lakes Community College will offer a preparatory course on Tuesday, June 21, for those interested in becoming a notary public.
 
Notaries public are responsible for the certification of legal documents and have the authority to administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and depositions, among other roles. They are licensed by New York state and registered in their respective counties following the successful completion of an exam.
 
The prep course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in room 2780 on the second floor of FLCC's main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua.
 
The course is open to the public and costs $75 per person. To enroll, call Andréa Badger, custom training specialist at FLCC, at (585) 785-1906 or email her.

Professional artists from across the country and Canada vie for a chance to come to Canandaigua and paint outdoors during the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival and Competition, scheduled for June 7 to 12.

Festival organizers will launch a new event on Thursday, June 9, to give local residents even more opportunities to watch visiting artists at work and purchase original paintings.

The artists will paint on the grounds of the Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum, 295 N. Main St., Canandaigua, during the day.
 
The public can meet artists and observe. The work will be on sale during a "wet paint sale" and reception at 6 p.m. Entry is free.

Pancake Breakfast to Benefit Alzheimer's Walk
The UR Medicine Thompson Health Senior Living Team is hosting a pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 4, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Charlie's Restaurant, 3140 County Road 10 in Canandaigua.
Proceeds will benefit the team's contribution to Canandaigua's Oct. 15 Walk to End Alzheimer's.
Tickets to the breakfast are $6 per person (cash only, please) and may be purchased in advanced at the cashier's window on the first floor of Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., or the morning of the breakfast, at the door.
 
Class Helps Children Prepare for New Baby
UR Medicine's Thompson Health will host a one-hour Sibling Class on Sunday, June 5, for 3- to 10-year-olds who will soon have a baby brother or sister born at Thompson.
The class includes a tour of the Birthing Center, a "visit" with a newborn, a video about changes to expect and practice sessions regarding how to hold and diaper a baby. In addition, parents receive information about how to further prepare the child for the baby's arrival.
The cost for parents and one child is $10, and there is an additional $5 charge for each additional child. Although the class is designed for children, parents are required to stay for the class.

Join the Parade! Applications Now Available to Participate in the 2016 Fourth of July Parade in Canandaigua   
The annual Fourth of July Celebration is on Mon, July 4. The celebration will include a parade, food vendors, and entertainment in Kershaw Park, concluding with a firework display in the evening. Applications to march in this year's parade are now available, and can be found onlineApplications are due Mon, June 6. This year's theme is "Movers and Shakers- Past, Present and Future," honoring people, organizations, businesses and historic places in Canandaigua. Apply to be a part of the parade in a number of ways. Community groups, local businesses and community members can build floats, play music, entertain in a walking group, or drive a car during the parade. The parade will begin in the Ontario St Parking Lot and head down Main St, continuing from the County Court House to Lakeshore Dr. 9:00 am         Parade Participants Line-up
