March 29, 2016 Finger Lakes Connected
Happy Spring Break! Having all the kids home used to be hard on me but now, I have a much more relaxed, take one day (or hour even) at a time approach. Ahhhh. Go with the flow! April Fools Day is on Friday and my youngest is up to something....I can just feel it! I think she's still trying to get me back for my April Fools slam dunk I made when I announced I was pregnant. She burst into tears because she said she always wanted to be the baby! When I fessed up, I said, "How could you fall for that?? I can barely handle you three!" The funniest part is my mother always wanted me to have more kids and when I told her my brain and tolerance level was at capacity with three, she always said, "So was mine! But, if I stopped at three, you wouldn't be around!" Hmmmmm....

HOST A PROFESSIONAL PLEIN AIR ARTIST!
2016 Finger Lakes Plein Air Competition & Festival at Canandaigua, NY
Festival Dates: June 7-12th

Have you ever wondered what the life of a professional outdoor artist is like?   Or how an artist can transform a moment into an amazing piece of art?

Click here to fill out and submit the Host Application Form at our website.

By opening your home and offering a guest room you not only help an artist offset some costs associated with participating in this year's festival - but you can make a new friend or two in the process.  Over the course of 5 days these artists want to share something quite magical with our community. They are those who live their dream to create. They follow in the footsteps of those chasing light and color since the early 19th century. This year we are asking our community to also embrace the storied tradition of welcoming accomplished, itinerant artists who charm the cultures they pay homage to in their paintings.

What makes us human?

The Finger Lakes Community College 50th anniversary lecture series wraps up Friday, April 1, with a talk on "Brain Science, Artificial Intelligence and Eugenics: Redefining What it Means to be Human."

Christine Parker, assistant professor of biology, will discuss the current state of genetic research and how close humanity has come to creating artificial intelligence.

Parker's talk begins at 7 p.m. in Stage 14 on the second floor of the FLCC main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua. Entry is free.

Please Read the Labels of your Over-The-Counter Medications!
Here's why it is important:
  • Taking too much can make you feel worse
  • An OTC drug could aggravate another problem you have
  • The OTC medication could affect a prescription med that you are taking
Your Ultimate Protection Tool Kit:
Two things can fend off OTC errors: a permanent marker and an attentive pharmacist. Use them like this:
  • Sharpie the dosing info on the bottle, cap or box of the OTC
  • Mark down other warnings that pertain to you
  • Talk to the Pharmacist
