Diabetes Facts
Diabetes is a condition in which the body can't properly use sugar, or glucose for the energy it needs. There are 3 types of Diabetes: Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes. With Type 1, the pancreas does not make enough insulin. Without insulin glucose levels become too high. With Type 2 (the more common type) the pancreas does not make enough insulin or the body does not use the insulin properly. Pregnant women can also get a type of diabetes called gestational diabetes that usually goes away after the baby is born. Diabetes is diagnosed by doing a simple blood test used to measure glucose in the blood. Left untreated diabetes can damage your eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Diabetes can also cause heart disease and stroke.

Symptoms of Diabetes include extreme thirst, urinating often, weight loss for no known reason, sores or cuts that heal slowly, dry itchy skin, tingling or numbness in hands and / or feet and blurred vision.
If you have diabetes, stop into Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe and we will help you with managing your diabetes. We are accredited to dispense diabetes testing supplies to those with Medicare B. We also have an area of over-the-counter items especially for diabetics including diabetic socks and shoes, sugar free cold medications, specialty lotions, etc. Let the team at the Medicine Shoppe help you to stay healthy!
