December 1, 2015 Finger Lakes Connected ENewsletter
As I told my daughter, who was a bit weepy going back to school after the Thanksgiving Holiday, in less than three weeks it will be the Winter Solstice. December 20th marks the shortest day of the year. After this, we get just a little bit more sunlight each day. Let's look at the bright side of things. For every angry Black Friday shopping experience you saw on the news, there probably were 25 happy, friendly, peaceful exchanges. Life is good.  Happy December!
Blue Skies,
Donna Bennett

Safety is a prime concern for everyone and Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe has many products that will help keep our loved ones safe and secure. Consider a transfer bench (this helps one to safely move into and out of the bath). A bath bench with suction cup tips on all 4 legs and makes it safer and more stable to sit inside a bathtub or shower. You can also improve bathroom safety by installing toilet safety rails. Tub bars attach to a wall and provide support while standing in the shower or getting up and down from a bath bench or chair. Grab bars can help with stability while bathing. These get installed inside the tub or shower. If you think you or a loved one needs some assistance in these areas stop into Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe and let our knowledgeable staff help you enjoy life to the fullest in a safe way.

How Biotechnology Changed the World

Finger Lakes Community College biology professor James Hewlett examines the "biotech boom" of the 1980s in a free lecture on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 12:45 p.m. in Stage 14 at the main campus in Canandaigua. Arrive early to allow for parking.

His talk, titled "How Biotechnology Changed the World: The 1980s Biotech Boom," is part of the FLCC 50th anniversary lecture series.

The decade featured the release of amazing new therapeutics, technologies that would accelerate drug development, genetically modified foods, and the launch of the human genome project. The same decade featured the birth of the anti-biotechnology movement, led by Jeremy Rifkin. Hewlett explores this critical decade and discusses the legacy it has left on the industry.
