October 13, 2015 CC ENewsletter

Some of you may know that my mother passed at this time last year. We were lucky to have her spend her final months in hospice at The Serenity House in Victor. It is very hard to find places like this when a family is looking and Canandaigua will soon have their own Comfort Care Home to offer dignified support for those nearing the end of their life. Please consider joining us at our 6th Annual Halloween FUNdraiser, Friday, October 23rd at The Inn on the Lake. Every year, Canandaigua Fitness fundraises for a local charity or non-profit and this year, 100% of our proceeds will go to the Canandaigua Comfort Care Home, which will care for two resident guests at this profound time of their lives without cost. This home is becoming a reality by virtue of our generous community. Presale tickets are $10 and include so much.....

FLCC 50th anniversary lecture series starts Oct. 13

As part of its 50th anniversary events, Finger Lakes Community College will launch a speaker series on Oct. 13 that examines popular topics over the last 50 years.

The series, "50 Minutes for 50 Years," is a reference to the typical 50-minute classes more than 25,000 alumni attended since credit classes began in early 1968. The first milestone in the college's founding, however, was the historic Ontario County Board of Supervisors' vote in 1965 to create the college.

"50 Minutes for 50 Years" opens with a presentation titled "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet: Music's Influence on Society from 1965-75" by Maria Gillard, a member of the music faculty, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. All events in the series are free and open to the public; they take place in Stage 14 on the second floor of the main campus Student Center, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive.

Core health begins in the core of your body - the intestinal tract where approximately 70% of your immune system resides. Diet, stress, travel and even some medications encourage non-beneficial bacteria to flourish in your digestive tract. When non-beneficial bacteria overpower the good bacteria, your digestive tract and overall health is open to a host of concerns. Probiotics which contain "good bacteria" helps to safely and naturally replace the non-beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract for strong core health. Probiotics help your digestive system to work better and support your immune health.  Probiotics are a perfect supplement for the active lifestyles people are leading today. Stop in at Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe and speak to our knowledgeable staff about Probiotics and whether they are right for you.

Click here to sign the petition to revoke bail for (or learn more about) a repeat DWI offender whose most recent acts cost the lives of two of our Canandaigua residents. He has been convicted of 7 felonies, 11 misdemeanors, and has a criminal history over 49 pages long. May 2014 was his last felony where the judge refused bail. He served 240 days in jail and was out just 4.5 months before driving drunk again when he hit and killed two of our Canandaigua residents. Somehow, bail was set for him this time and this petition urges for this to be revoked. RIP Steve and Patty.
