October 6, 2015 CC ENewsletter

The more things change, the more they remain the same. I remember having to write an essay in middle or high school about that saying. I stared at it, I read it over and over again, but still it just didn't make sense. The clock was ticking - I believe it was a state test if they had those back then. Somehow, I pulled out a somewhat logical essay about basic truths staying the same while surrounding details may change. Why do I bring this up now? CC will stay the same, but the website is now down as we undergo a change. Don't worry, it will just be a minor detail kind of change that makes sense now considering CC has expanded both it's subscriber and advertiser base. It will be easier for people to sign up to get the Enewsletter and I'm looking forward to a little bit of re-branding to go with our wider customer and advertiser base! Moving on up! Stay tuned....

PS I think I would write a different essay now about this quote. It would be more along the lines of no matter how much time has passed, and technology savvy we become, we still are faced with the same age old problems of striving for world peace and trying to stay united, versus divided. Okay, enough philosophy for one day. Thank you for staying Connected and enjoy this week's local happenings!

Blue Skies,

Donna Bennett

FLCC 50th anniversary series looks back at music, the food industry, Harry Potter and more

As part of its 50th anniversary events, Finger Lakes Community College will launch a speaker series on Oct. 13 that examines popular topics over the last 50 years.

The series, "50 Minutes for 50 Years," is a reference to the typical 50-minute classes more than 25,000 alumni attended since credit classes began in early 1968. The first milestone in the college's founding, however, was the historic Ontario County Board of Supervisors' vote in 1965 to create the college.

"50 Minutes for 50 Years" opens with a presentation titled "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet: Music's Influence on Society from 1965-75" by Maria Gillard, a member of the music faculty, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. All events in the series take place in Stage 14 on the second floor of the main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive.

Click here to sign the petition to revoke bail for (or learn more about) a repeat DWI offender whose most recent acts cost the lives of two of our Canandaigua residents. He has been convicted of 7 felonies, 11 misdemeanors, and has a criminal history over 49 pages long. May 2014 was his last felony where the judge refused bail. He served 240 days in jail and was out just 4.5 months before driving drunk again when he hit and killed two of our Canandaigua residents. Somehow, bail was set for him this time and this petition urges for this to be revoked. RIP Steve and Patty.
