Speakers announced for Ewing series at FLCC 

Two advocates for the global advancement of women will join a longtime Boston Globe political columnist and a New York Times bestselling author and activist for the fifth season of the George M. Ewing Canandaigua Forum.

 

Events take place on Sunday afternoons over the next several months in the auditorium at Finger Lakes Community College, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua.

 

Chouchou Namegabe and Alyse Nelson open the season with a talk Sept. 20 titled "Women's Rights Worldwide: Progress, Backlash & Prospects."

On Oct. 18, the Ewing forum welcomes retired political journalist Tom Oliphant, for "The Long March to Camelot: How JFK's Presidential Campaign

The final speaker, scheduled for Jan. 24, 2016, is author, activist and filmmaker Naomi Klein, who will discuss "Capitalism vs. The Climate: Reflections on the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference."

The Palliative Care Program at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center is partnering with YoBerry at Parkway Plaza on Eastern Boulevard for a fundraiser. On Saturday, Aug. 15, customers who remember to use the code word "THOMPSON" when paying for their frozen yogurt at this YoBerry location will ensure that they are helping support palliative care for residents at M.M. Ewing, a skilled-nursing facility operated by UR Medicine's Thompson Health in Canandaigua.

 

 

Thompson to Host Back-to-Work Breastfeeding Class Aug. 27. Learn more about getting ready to return to work or school while still breastfeeding during a class to be held Thursday, Aug. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. in The Birthing Center at UR Medicine's Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. Topics will include pumping, storing breast milk, introducing bottles, New York State breastfeeding laws, breastfeeding in a daycare setting and more.
