I spent Sunday morning in 42 degree wind and rain at my youngest daughter's LAX tourney. Then, I took my oldest daughter to the mall in the afternoon to find a dress for the school dance. I'm not sure which was worse or which has the longer recovery time, but I'm ready for some WARM June weather, sunshine, and outdoor fun! What about you??

  KEEPING JACOB STRONG! Tragedy has struck the life of 4 year-old, Jacob Bookmiller, and his family needs our help on his road to recovery. Jacob requires numerous surgeries in order to repair extensive, internal damage. On Monday, June 8th, 6:30pm we will be hosting a silent auction, raffles and a dining event to raise money to help this young man fight for his life. Join us and be a part of KEEPING JACOB STRONG!

Finger Lakes Academy: A Classical Charter School 

 

We propose to open in Fall 2016 as a K-2 classical public school serving the entire Finger Lakes area. We would grow to a K-6 by the year 2020, opening in 2016 with two classes of Kindergarten, one first grade class, and one second grade class and add on each year. Celebrating the theme "My Chosen Spots," the parade will feature participant's favorite spots from around the City of Canandaigua. The 2015 parade will set up at 9am on July 4 with step off at 10am. Awards:

Outstanding Musical Unit, Outstanding Float, and Best Theme. There will also be an award given by the Grand Marshall and the Junior Judges, as well as the Mayor's Community Spirit Award. Applications accepted through June 5.

Sonnenberg's 8th Annual Roses & Rosés to Feature Wine and Food in Celebration of Rose Month

 

The 8th Annual Roses & Rosés is June 8, 6-9pm at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua. This elegant wine and food pairing event showcases dozens of wineries and restaurants from the Finger Lakes Region in celebration of Rose Month at Sonnenberg. Guests are invited to stroll through the historic Mansion, Belvedere, and Rose Garden where many of the garden's roses will be starting to enter their peak bloom period. A silent auction will also be held in the Mansion.

Sonnenberg's original owner, Mary Clark Thompson, originally created the park's Rose Garden more than a century ago to feature over 2,500 rose bushes. This garden at its peak provides an amazing sensory treat for both the eyes and nose.

 

Advance reservations are $30 per person or $25 per member. This event is open to guests 21 and over only and will be held rain or shine. In case of rain, the event is moved into the mansion. Prepaid reservations are required (585) 394-4922.

Professional artists from across the country vie for a chance to come to Canandaigua and paint outdoors during the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival. You and your family and friends can take part in events running June 7 to 17. Some are free; others are ticketed events with the artists. A "palette pass" at $150 per person or $300 per couple gives full access to all events, including a gala preview on June 13 and breakfast with the artists on June 14. FLCC offers summer high school exam prep, classes to improve English

 

Finger Lakes Community College offers free adult basic education classes through mid-summer for those seeking to improve their English skills or to get a high school diploma.

 

Classes for those who want to get a high school diploma by taking the state Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) can take preparation classes through FLCC at a variety of locations.

 

TASC preparation classes are offered days and evenings during the summer in Canandaigua. Day classes are also offered in Geneva, Newark, Lyons and Penn Yan, and evening classes in Sodus, Wolcott and Victor. Some classes are at FLCC facilities; others are held at community organizations such as the Salvation Army in Canandaigua, the Yates County Workforce Development Office in Penn Yan and the North-Rose-Wolcott High School.

This Thursday is RSVP Deadline for Colors of Hope & Courage Event to Honor Cancer Patients, Survivors and Families

UR Medicine's Thompson Health is honoring those touched by cancer at its eighth annual Colors of Hope and Courage, on Thursday, June 11, 5-7pm at the Inn on the Lake, 770 S. Main St. in Canandaigua. All who have been touched by cancer - men and women, young and old - are welcome.  In addition to a light dinner, Colors of Hope and Courage will include music from Almost Irish, a photo booth, and family-friendly offerings such as face painting and jewelry making.  There is no charge to attend. June 13 Golf Tourney Benefits Local Cancer Patients

The Margery Coughlin Pawluk Golf Tournament is set to take place Saturday, June 13, at Reservoir Creek Golf Course in Naples.
