Basic Computer Classes. Four Tuesdays in May:  May 5, 12, 19, and 26 / 10:30-11:30AM.  A partnership with the Ontario County Office for the Aging, this 44-week program is for Ontario County residents ages 60 and over. Classes will cover: Computer Basics, Keyboard and Mouse Skills, Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and more. Registration is required.

VOTE Tuesday, May 19 / 7:00AM-9:00PM.  Proposition #3 will appear on the May 19 Canandaigua City School District ballot.  It asks voters to authorize a levy increase of $12,000 in community-based funding for Wood Library.  This is a 1.97% increase over the base amount of $610,000 approved by voters in 2014.  Learn more about Proposition #3 at here or attend an information session at Wood Library:  Mon, May 4, 7:00PM or Sat, May 9, at 10:30AM.

Finger Lakes Chorale performs favorite religious works

 

The Finger Lakes Chorale, a community chorus based at Finger Lakes Community College, will perform Gabriel Fauré's "Requiem" and favorite religious choruses in two concerts the first weekend in May.

 

The first concert is set for Saturday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 183 N. Main St., Canandaigua, and the second on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m., also at the church.

 

Entry is free but donations are requested for the Dr. A. John Walker Music Award for Finger Lakes Community College music and music recording students.

Healthy Eating Series Kicks Off at NYWCC May 7

UR Medicine's Thompson Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Department and the New York Wine & Culinary Center (NYWCC) are teaming up to offer a two-part series called "New Approaches for Healthful Eating."

Led by Clinical Dietitian Darcy Prunoske, RD, CDN, of Thompson, and Chef Jeffory McLean - joined by NYWCC staff - the series will be held at the NYWCC, 800 S. Main St. in Canandaigua.  The series kicks off on Thurs, May 7, is graciously underwritten by Constellation Brands, Jim and Ellie Fralick, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Thompson's Spirit of Women program, Wegmans Food Markets and the Yarger family.  For the full news release with details, click here.

 

May 7 Plant Sale at Thompson Hospital

 The Thompson Health Guild will host its annual Plant Sale on Thursday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Thompson Conference Center on the ground floor of UR Medicine's Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. The sale will feature hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, herbs and more will be available from Spring Valley Garden Center in Canandaigua. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. Thompson associates will have the option of using payroll deduction during the sale, which benefits the Guild's programs.

 

CIEE is seeking host families for high school students for the upcoming 2015-16 school year in Canandaigua and the surrounding school systems.
