This hands-on workshop teaches the basics of word processing using Microsoft Word. Topics covered include: using the ribbon; creating and saving documents; highlighting, copying, and pasting text; formatting lists; checking spelling and grammar; applying headers, footers, borders, and watermarks. To help bring the cost of an education within reach, many colleges offer a wide range of financial aid options. At this session, you'll learn the ins and outs of the financial aid process, including types of financial aid, required applications and important deadlines, eligibility and more. Teen Craft - Book Bangles. Thur, April 23, 6pm
Chrislyn Gardner, a graduate student from University at Buffalo, will be hosting a craft night at Wood Library for young adults, up-cycling comic strips and book jackets into jewelry. Come and hang out! Food and craft supplies will be provided, no sign up necessary. Just bring your favorite comic strip, a print out of a miniature book cover, and a smile! Ages 12-18.

Unwanted Pharmaceuticals To Be Collected at Wegmans in Canandaigua

 

On April 25, Ontario County Sheriff's Office, Wegmans Food Markets, Covarta Niagara Center, Ontario County Office for the Aging, Canandaigua Police Department and The Partnership for Ontario County will be sponsoring a program to collect outdated, unwanted and unusable medications. The program will take place from 9am-12pm at the Canandaigua Wegmans.

 

Properly disposing of unused medication can help prevent drug misuse and abuse. According to the FDA the safest and most environmentally protective way to dispose of unused medication is returning unwanted medicines to a take-back program.

 

Appointments are not necessary. Wegmans will have signs on site for those wishing to properly dispose of medication.

Gentle Yoga Series Begins at Thompson April 29

Get a total body-mind workout at Gentle Yoga classes every Wednesday, April 29 through June 17, with Rick Lynch of the Finger Lakes Yoga Center in Canandaigua. Classes are held from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Thompson Conference Center at UR Medicine's F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.

No experience is necessary, nor is flexibility required to participate in the program. Pre-registration is required and the cost for the eight-week series is $80. Thompson, NYWCC Team Up for Healthy Cooking Series

UR Medicine's Thompson Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Department and the New York Wine & Culinary Center (NYWCC) are offering a two-part series called "New Approaches for Healthful Eating." Led by Clinical Dietitian Darcy Prunoske, RD, CDN, of Thompson, and Chef Jeffory McLean, the series will be held at the NYWCC, 800 S. Main St. in Canandaigua.
The series kicks off on Thursday, May 7. You may attend the second class on either May 14 or May 21.

There will be free screenings for Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer on April 23rd at The Speech Pathology Department at UR Medicine's Thompson Health in the Constellation Center for Health and Healing at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish Street in Canandaigua, from 1 to 5pm by appointment only. Dr. John Centonze of Finger Lakes Otolaryngology will be donating his time and providing his services administering the tests at no costs to those that sign up. Those who exhibit such warnings signs as red or white patches in the mouth, vocal changes or hoarseness lasting more than two weeks, a sore throat that won't subside, pain or swelling in the mouth or neck that does not disappear, a lump in the neck, ear pain and difficulty speaking, swallowing and/or breathing, are especially encouraged to grab an appointment and get tested. Those who smoke and chew tobacco or drink in access should get tested as well. Call 585-396-6057 for more information or to set up an appointment, as registration is required.
