CIEE is seeking host families for high school students for the upcoming 2015-16 school year in Canandaigua and the surrounding school systems. The culinary arts program at Finger Lakes Community College will have just two more Dinner at Julia restaurant nights this semester. Dinner at Julia offers low-cost, five-course fine dining to the community at the main campus in Canandaigua.

 

The last two dates for the spring semester are April 17 and April 24. Reservations can be made for arrival times between 5:30 and 7 p.m. by calling (585) 785-1476. The cost is $35 per person and includes tax and tip.

Thompson to Host Job Fair April

UR Medicine's Thompson Health - recently included on the "150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare" list released by Becker's Hospital Review - will host a job fair on Wednesday, April 8.The fair will run from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Constellation Center for Health and Healing at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. with opportunities to learn about current clinical and non-clinical openings within the health system. Those attending are encouraged to submit job applications online prior to the job fair, if possible, by clicking here.

 

Thompson to Host Program for Moms & Daughters Ages 9-11
On Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., UR Medicine's Thompson Health will host "Girls Are Special," a mother/daughter day of fun and learning. With Nurse Practitioner Karen Yax as
guest speaker, mothers and daughters (ages 9-11) will learn about physical and emotional changes during adolescence. Topics of discussion and activities include diet and fitness, stress, safety, relationships and positive body image. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Reservations are required and space is limited.. To register, call (585) 396-6111. The cost is $35 for mother and daughter ($5 for each additional daughter). Payment can be made via cash, check or credit card, and there is a $5 for members of Thompson's Spirit of Women program.

Unwanted Pharmaceuticals To Be Collected at Wegmans in Canandaigua

 

On April 25, Ontario County Sheriff's Office, Wegmans Food Markets, Covarta Niagara Center, Ontario County Office for the Aging, Canandaigua Police Department and The Partnership for Ontario County will be sponsoring a program to collect outdated, unwanted and unusable medications. The program will take place from 9am-12pm at the Canandaigua Wegmans.

 

Properly disposing of unused medication can help prevent drug misuse and abuse. According to the FDA the safest and most environmentally protective way to dispose of unused medication is returning unwanted medicines to a take-back program.

 

Appointments are not necessary. Wegmans will have signs on site for those wishing to properly dispose of medication.

There will be free screenings for Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer on April 23rd at The Speech Pathology Department at UR Medicine's Thompson Health in the Constellation Center for Health and Healing at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish Street in Canandaigua, from 1 to 5pm by appointment only. Dr. John Centonze of Finger Lakes Otolaryngology will be donating his time and providing his services administering the tests at no costs to those that sign up. Those who exhibit such warnings signs as red or white patches in the mouth, vocal changes or hoarseness lasting more than two weeks, a sore throat that won't subside, pain or swelling in the mouth or neck that does not disappear, a lump in the neck, ear pain and difficulty speaking, swallowing and/or breathing, are especially encouraged to grab an appointment and get tested.
