Office for the Aging Basic Computer Classes. Tuesdays, March 17, 24, 31 / 10:30 AM

Wood Library has partnered with the Ontario County Office for the Aging to bring another four week series of basic computer classes for Ontario County residents ages 60 and over. Classes will be held Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM during the month of March. 

 

Alzheimer's Association: Financial & Legal Issues w/ Russ Kenyon, Esq. Tuesday, March 17 / 6:30 - 8:00 PM.  Learn what legal and financial issues to consider after a dementia diagnosis and what factors to address as you look to the future.


 

Teen Pizza & Movie Night: The Giver. Thursday, March 19 / 6:00 - 8:00 PM.  In this popular YA novel turned movie, a young boy lives in a seemingly perfect community. If All of Rochester Reads...Author Visit. Fri, March 20, 11am  Karen Thompson Walker, author of The Age of Miracles, will be visiting Wood Library on Friday, March 20 at 11am as part of Writers & Books' "If All of Rochester Reads the Same Book" program. The novel follows middle-schooler Julia and her family as they discover, along with the rest of the world, that the rotation of the earth has suddenly begun to slow. The days and nights grow longer and longer, gravity is affected, and the environment is thrown into disarray. The author will share excerpts from her book and answer questions from the audience. Copies of The Age of Miracles will be available for purchase. Be sure to arrive early as this has proven to be a popular program.

Give the kids an opportunity to make dinner for the whole family! This culinary workshop focuses on essential culinary skills and techniques that your children can use straight through adulthood. New York Wine & Culinary Instructor, Chef Jeffory, will instruct on knife skills, cooking methods, healthy choices, portion control, and food pairing. FLCC, FLI offer teacher training

 

In observance of World Water Day this month, Finger Lakes Community College's Muller Field Station is partnering with the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith Colleges for two educator workshops: 

 

On Friday, March 20, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) will be held at the field station, 6455 County Road 36, Canadice. Comprised of water-related activities, games and classroom lessons, it will be led by Betsy Ukeritis, an educator with the DEC. Participants get a free curriculum and activity guide.

 

On Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., area science teachers are invited to the Finger Lakes Institute, 601 S. Main St., Geneva for a workshop led by aquatic biologist Pete Lent. Lunch will be provided; registration is required by March 18.

Diabetes Support Group Meets Wednesday

The Diabetes Support Group hosted by UR Medicine's Thompson Health will discuss "Glucose Pattern Management" this Wednesday, March 18, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua.

This group, for people with Type 2 diabetes and their families, is facilitated by Jane Hallstead, RN, MSN, CDE. For more information, call (585) 396-6233.

Caregivers' Group to Meet Friday

People caring for or about a seriously or chronically ill family member are invited to attend a Caregivers Support Group meeting this Friday, March 20, at the Sands Cancer Center, 360 Parrish St. in Canandaigua.
