Maybe we had to go through the wackiest, coldest, snowiest, windiest winter ever to appreciate an above 20 degree day. My eleven year old son tried to wear shorts and/or no winter coat in December and even into some of January (because apparently it is the cool thing to do), but February had him bundled up and our daily struggles about this subsided. Welcome, March...we've been (somewhat patiently) waiting for you! I, for one, am excited to set the clocks ahead Saturday night! 

 

PS Tickets are still available for this Saturday's Serenity House Gala  that I am so honored to chair! If you are not familiar with Serenity House, it is the wonderful comfort care home in Victor where my mother spent her final months of life. This "Vegas Style" gala will be one to remember. Please find details below in the event ad.  Maybe we will see you there to enjoy a fun filled evening for a heartfelt cause!

Final Tom Waits tribute at FLCC

 

Over a dozen Finger Lakes Community College faculty and alumni musicians will pay tribute to Tom Waits for the fifth and final time, with a concert and optional gourmet dinner on Friday, March 6.

 

The ensemble Drop Dead Suits and female vocalists Sad Luck Dames will recreate Waits' 1999 Grammy-award winning album "Mule Variations" with a performance at 8 p.m., March 6 in the FLCC Student Center auditorium, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua. Entry is $5 for the general public or free with an FLCC ID.

 

A Waits-inspired Dinner at Julia will be offered before the show. Held in FLCC's Stage 14, Julia has students and faculty in the college's culinary program preparing and serving five-course meals on select Friday evenings each semester. The $35 fee includes the meal, taxes, tip and admission to the Waits tribute. Read more here.

 

  

Learn About Joint Replacement Wednesday

The monthly Total Joint Replacement Group Education Program hosted by UR Medicine's Thompson Health will be held on Wednesday, March 4, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Constellation Center for Health and Healing at F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. The free program addresses questions about preparing for this elective surgery, covering topics such as getting your home ready, beginning an exercise program and more. Thompson to Offer Free Vein Screenings March 10

The Diagnostic Imaging Department at UR Medicine's Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., will hold free varicose vein consultations on Tuesday, March 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. These consultations, with vein specialist Dr. David E. Lee, will be held by appointment only, with a limited number of appointments available. To schedule a screening, call the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Thompson at (585) 396-6701. Through advanced technology, Lee and Thompson's other vein specialists can rid patients of the self-consciousness and discomfort that often accompany varicose and spider veins. The non-surgical procedure involved takes approximately one hour, has minimal recovery time and is covered by most insurances. For more information, click here.
