December 16, 2014 Canandaigua Connected ENewsletter
Often, there is no rhyme or reason why things happen. At least to the naked eye this is as it seems. When we hear of a "bad" thing happening to a good person, it makes us wonder, doesn't it? But, we do not know now what the master plan is. Sometimes, it is not revealed to us for days, weeks, or years after. The best we can do is accept what we are dealt and ditch the previous expectation that is no longer valid. Anything else creates suffering above and beyond what was dealt to you. I know Christmas-time is meant to be happy, but please remember there are others, even sometimes your neighbors, who are dealing with hardship and pain. Maybe, the true Christmas spirit is about coming together to help those in need - a prayer, a meal, or a helping hand can go a long way.
Blue Skies, Donna Bennett

Wish Program Benefits from Calendar Sale The M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center was chosen from among nearly 100 submissions to be featured in the 2015 Caring Canines calendar, highlighting animals that live and work in long-term care facilities around the country.
Smokey the cat appears in the calendar and is shown visiting a resident of M.M. Ewing who was receiving end-of-life care and wished to spend time with cats. Smokey and other animals in the calendar show the roles dogs and cats play as companions, mood elevators, physical therapy aids, memory triggers, and friends for the elderly residing in long-term care facilities nationwide. A limited number of copies are available at the front desk of M.M. Ewing, at 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, in return for a $15 donation to the Sharon M. Pepper Wish Upon a Star program. To learn more about the program, click here.
