August is the month we try to cram everything (we think we should be doing over the summer but haven't quite started yet) in. Summer reading lists, vacations, camping, more lake fun...I'm sure we all have our own Summer 2014 bucket list. I think someone should start a service where they'd come pick up my kids and take them school supply shopping. That, to me, is worse than the mall. Volunteers? Anyone? Bueller?

CLIFTON SPRINGS, NY - The Cancer Services Program of Ontario, Seneca and Yates Counties (CSP) provides free screenings for colorectal, cervical and breast cancers for eligible men and women with little or no health insurance. The CSP is grant funded by the New York State Department of Heath. Clifton Springs Hospital& Clinic is the grant holder of this Program for all three counties. Screenings are available by many providers throughout Ontario , Seneca and Yates Counties . Men and Women age 50 and older may be eligible for annual at-home colorectal cancer screening kits, Women age 40 and older may be eligible for Pap and Pelvic exams; Mammograms and Clinical Breast Exams are provided for eligible women age 40 and older and men with confirmed breast symptoms. Tickets on sale now for speaker series at FLCC
The new lineup of speakers for the George M. Ewing Canandaigua Forum is set. Sculptor Albert Paley will speak on Sept. 28; the science fiction writer behind the ABC miniseries "Flashforward," Robert Sawyer is the guest on Nov. 2; and radio talk show host Evan Dawson, known for his award winning book, "Summer in a Glass: The Coming of Age of Winemaking in the Finger Lakes," will speak on Jan. 25.
All events take place on Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. at the FLCC main campus auditorium.

Thompson to host Career Exploration Day for Teens.
Thompson Health is offering students entering ninth through 12th grades the opportunity to learn about healthcare careers through job shadowing and hands-on activities overseen by a variety of Thompson professionals.
The 2014 Career Exploration Day will be held at Thompson Hospital on Friday, Aug. 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is a registration fee of $15 and registration deadline is Aug. 15. Lunch will be provided.
