July 8, 2014 Canandaigua Connected ENewsletter
Wasn't that a perfect Independence Day weekend? The weather was ideal and everything just seemed to fall into place. Did you ever notice when you let things happen without tying emotion to outcomes, the world is a happier place? Life lesson #32 was learned this weekend: Trade your expectations for accept-ations. PS Another interesting weekend event was having a rational non-fear based conversation with someone who has world views COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY opposite to mine. I think we sometimes forget that it is okay to have varying opinions. It's actually very AMERICAN if you think about it to not all agree on issues. To walk away from a conversation like that and still feel UNITED is a wonderful feeling. Of course it is more "comfortable" to be around like-minded people, but to really learn and grow, stepping outside of that zone is the key. Again, accepting versus expecting....

Find out why SUNY's chancellor praises FLCC, MCC for job training
Looking for a job? A new career with potential for advancement? Tomorrow (July 9) is a chance to learn more about a job training effort that has earned the praise of the SUNY chancellor.
FLCC will host an information session for a six-month advanced manufacturing machinist training program at 9 a.m. at G.W. Lisk Co. in Clifton Springs. (Call ahead today if you want us to save you a seat: 585-785-1906.) Graduates can seek employment immediately, or under a new agreement between FLCC and MCC, continue their education.
The FLCC program is currently non-credit, but under an agreement between the colleges, students can transfer into MCC's credit-bearing one-year precision tooling certificate program. MCC will give transferring FLCC students 15 credits, or just under half needed to complete its tooling program, reducing the time and expense to get the certificate. MCC students who complete the one-year program then have the option of moving into its two-year precision machining degree program.
Here is what SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher had to say about it:
"The advanced manufacturing pathway that FLCC and MCC have collaboratively established exemplifies the power of SUNY's systemness and the positive impact that we can have on New York state when our colleges come together to help students get ahead in an emerging industry. FLCC and MCC are not only giving students a competitive edge in today's job market; they are also providing an essential service to the modern manufacturing community, where the need for skilled workers continues to grow."
