I know summer is a bit of a hectic time with warm weather, vacations and camps, but I wanted to give everyone on the email interest list a brief update as to where we are with the charter school.
We are still waiting for formal communications from SUNY and have a founding board meeting set for July 23rd in anticipation of receiving their information. In the mean time, we have simplified the school name to Finger Lakes Academy: A Classical Charter School (or FLA for short).
I attended an extremely informative and inspirational seminar at Hillsdale College a few weeks ago and had the privilege of meeting with founders and principals from successful classical charter schools all over the country! Some of these schools were started in rural communities similar to our area and serve a growing need found all over the country for a classical education public school choice. I even met a group from the Newburgh, New York area who were first intrigued by the submittal of our proposal to SUNY and are now embarking on this same charter school journey that we trail blazed through several months ago.
We are currently looking for volunteers to serve on various committees, so please respond to this email if you are interested in learning more about how to help bring Finger Lakes Academy to fruition. I know we are all busy, but even a small amount of effort can help in this very important endeavor. We wish you a safe and happy Independence Day holiday full of celebration and remembrance of what July 4, 1776 truly means.
Sincerely,
Donna Bennett
