  • Two ways to get your foot in the door

Advanced manufacturing is a growing industry in the Rochester region, but you don't have to get an engineering degree to be a part of it. Finger Lakes Community College is holding orientation and interview sessions in July for two short-term training programs.

The first, called Advanced Manufacturing Machinist, is a six-month program that combines classes and hands-on practice to teach modern machining using computerized mills and lathes. Classes run September through March 2015. Graduates of the three previous classes have all had job offers by the time they completed the program. The orientation and interview session is Wednesday, July 9, at 9 a.m. at G.W. Lisk Co., 2 South St., Clifton Springs.  Call the FLCC Professional Development and Continuing Education at (585) 785-1906 to reserve a seat. Read more here.

  • The second FLCC program, called Mechatronics Technology, is a shorter and more general program that involves soldering, measurement skills, mechanical fundamentals, blueprint reading and basic electrical schematics. It's a 12-week program that runs mid-September to mid-December with the goal of having students meet with employers at the end of the program. Learn more on Wednesday, July 16, at 9 a.m. at the FLCC Victor Campus Center, 200 Victor Heights Parkway (Route 251). To make a reservation for the orientation session or get more information, call (585) 785-1906. Read more here.
