"EMERGING ARTISTS AND THEIR MENTORS"
This 9th Annual Studio II Exhibit is a wonderful show featuring work done by students who took art classes during 2013. It will also feature work done by instructors who teach at Studio II.
The exhibit will open with a reception at the gallery on Saturday, March 15th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Please join us during the opening where you can meet the artists whose works will be represented and for sale and enjoy refreshments.
The exhibit runs March 15th-April 25th.

Doctor to Speak at Thursday's Mended Hearts Meeting

Toddler Safety Class Offered
A new Toddler Safety Class presented by Thompson Health is designed to assist parents and caregivers of young children (4 months to 2 years) in providing a safe environment while still allowing for enriching and creative spaces in which their child may flourish. Held on Thursday, March 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Birthing Center at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, this course costs $15 and RSVP is required.  See work by local favorites in FLCC art exhibit! An upcoming exhibit at the Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34 at Finger Lakes Community College will explore the relationship between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional work of 11 area sculptors. "Intersections/Conversations Between Form and Plane: Sculptors and Their Drawings" will open Thursday, March 13, at the gallery on FLCC's main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua. The exhibit begins with an opening from 1 to 3 p.m., including a 2 p.m. talk by participating artists Mitch Messina and Vincent Massaro of Rochester and Wayne Williams of Newark. A reception sponsored by the FLCC Foundation will follow, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibition is an invitational in which the artists were asked to take part based on their work and its fit with its objective of exploring the relationship between drawing and sculpture. In addition to Messina, Massaro, and Williams, participating artists include: Bill Wolff, Sue Blumendale and Barron Naegel, all of Rochester; Jeff Kell of Rush, Judith Olson Gregory of Chautauqua; Susan Ferrari Rowley of Scottsville; Dexter Benedict of Penn Yan and Ted Aub of Geneva. Charter School in the Finger Lakes area?
A group of parents, former educators and community leaders will be applying through the SUNY Trustees for a charter school (as a free public school choice option) in our area. We are actively seeking your comments, responses and feedback so please email or call us at (585)298-0116.
The Classical Charter School of the Finger Lakes will be located in Phelps and is expected to open enrollment in the Fall of 2015. Students can enroll from these 9 schools districts (within the 15 mile bus radius): Marcus Whitman, Shortsville/Manchester, Geneva, Palmyra, Newark, Lyons, Phelps/Clifton Springs, Waterloo, and Canandaigua. Other students are welcome, but would provide their own transportation. In the first year, we will open as a K-6 school (200 students)with plans for expansion each subsequent year to be a K-12 school in 2021.
A few key components of the curriculum:
- K-5 Spanish and 6-9 Latin Instruction
- Emphasis on classical literature
- Research-based phonics instruction
- Instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue
