 My 8 year old daughter Rachel thinks she caused this snow day with her thoughts. She rushed home from school yesterday to tell me she was hoping all day long, "maybe we can just go back to winter vacation, maybe we can just go back to winter vacation..." Then, miraculously, BEFORE SCHOOL ENDED, they were told school was cancelled for Tuesday. So, now she's imagining all kinds of things with that brain of hers. Unlimited supply of marshmallows, shopping sprees at mall with mom, the list of IMpossibilities are endless! I'm not going to be the one to burst her bubble because the smile is still ear to ear! Stories and rhymes for 2 year olds and a parent or caregiver with Children's Librarian Mrs. Ferris and her puppet helper, Shrinking Violet. Weekly sessions are 20 minutes long and will be held in the library's Story Room. Registration is required. The series runs through February 25
Storytime Wed Jan 8 OR Thurs Jan 9, 10:30-11a. Registration Required.
Storybook fun and more for children 3-5 years old! Our half-hour sessions on Wednesday and
Thursday mornings feature picturebook stories, fingerplays, songs, and the flannelboard. This eight week series is conducted by Mrs. Ferris and runs through February 27.
Travel Fiction Book Club. Thurs Jan 9, 6p
Visit Ireland through travel fiction. This new group will meet monthly and be facilitated by Jeanne Crane, author of Celtic Spirit. During the first meeting we will choose future books to read. This month's book is Celtic Riddle by Lyn Hamilton.
Middle School Game Night
Thursday Jan 9, 6:00-8:00 PM
Game Night at Wood Library for middle school students only! Play video games on 2 big screens, game online, choose from dozens of board games, or start a round of Mafia. For grades 6-8 only. Snacks served!

Sleep Solutions Meets Wednesday
Thompson Health's Sleep Disorders Center hosts a monthly Sleep Solutions support group for people with sleep apnea, and the next meeting is this Wed, Jan. 8, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Center, 229 Parrish St. in Canandaigua. Mended Hearts Group Meets Thursday
The topic for this month's Mended Hearts Education and Support Group is "Mindfulness: Insight to Self," presented by educational director and consultant Sandra J. Voigt, MA, SDA. Held from 7 to 9 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 9, at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, the meeting is sponsored by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Thompson Hospital and the American Heart Association.  Spring semester registration at FLCC Registration for the spring semester at FLCC is under way with opportunities to sign up for classes at four locations. New full- and part-time students pursuing a degree should start with the online application, which details the testing and registration process. The application deadline is January 17, 2014.  HARLEM WIZARDS Swoosh Canandaigua! The Harlem Wizards are coming to Canandaigua Academy, Mon, Jan 27th at 6:30pm. The evening promises to be a fun filled event that is great for kids and adults and will guarantee to put a smile on your face! This event is hosted by Canandaigua PTSA to benefit our PTSA's General Fund. The Harlem Wizards have a unique mission: create awe-inspiring events throughout the country. At a Wizards game, fans will witness amazing basketball talent combined with hilarious comedy. Its two hours of family time where parents, grandparents, and kids can all laugh together. When you're in the stands, you're more than a spectator; you' re part of the show with loads of audience participation. Throughout the game, fans will experience a magical display of tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing and aerodynamic athleticism combined with high-energy comedy and audience interaction. The experience can only be summed up in two words: Awe-Inspiring! Tickets purchased before the event are $10. Tickets can be purchased by emailing the PTSA now until Jan 27th. Tickets will also be available on the day of the game at Canandaigua Academy at 5:30pm for $12. |
