World Diabetes Day Community Forum Nov. 14
In partnership with St. Benedict Parish of Ontario County, F.F. Thompson Hospital at 350 Parrish St. will host its 8th annual World Diabetes Day community forum on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the hospital's Constellation Center for Health and Healing. The event begins at 4:15 p.m. with registration, health screenings and exhibits. A light dinner at 5 p.m. will be followed by experts from Thompson Health's Sleep Disorders Center discussing the link between diabetes and sleep disorders.The event will conclude with a panel discussion, "Diabetes Management: It Takes a Team," featuring a dietitian, dentist, pharmacist, physical therapist and sleep technicians. In lieu of a program fee, donations of non-perishable items for the Blue Star Canteen of Canandaigua will be gratefully accepted at the event.

Thompson's Free 'Oh, My Healthy Back' Class
Oh, My Healthy Back" (teaching those w/lower back pain about their spine and management of pain) is Wed, Nov. 13, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Thompson Conference Center on the lower level of F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua.
Physical therapists & certified mechanical diagnostic therapists discuss spinal anatomy, spinal conditions, theories about lower back pain & basic management techniques. Designed for the person w/occasional back pain, seminar is not intended to substitute for medical care. RSVP is required (396-6111) for this free program.

St. John's Episcopal Church Celebrates 200 Years of Beloved Community. Sun, Nov 10 at 10 a.m., the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (ECUSA), The Most Reverend Katherine Jefferts Schori, will preach and celebrate at the opening service of St. John's Bicentennial Year. Formerly Bishop of Nevada, Jefferts Schori was elected to the national position in June of 2006. She is the first woman to hold the seat of Presiding Bishop.
She holds a Ph.D. in oceanography, is a licensed pilot, and is known for her books and other writings on what mission means to the Church and the world. Please join us!

Culinary Students Invite Public To New Restaurant Experience!
The Finger Lakes Community College Culinary Arts Program has launched a restaurant night, offering low-cost, five-course fine dining to the community several Fridays each semester at the main campus.
Called Dinner at Julia - in honor of Julia Child - the restaurant night gives students hands-on experience under the supervision of their instructors. Diners have a choice of two menus, each with a soup, appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert and coffee. The cost of $35 per person, which includes tax and tip, covers food and supplies for the program.
Dinners are served in the Stage 14 performance room on the second floor of the Student Center, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. The next restaurant nights at FLCC are Nov. 8, Nov. 22 and Dec. 13. Seating is limited. Reservations are required at (585) 785-1444. Wine is available at an extra charge. Menu options are different for each event. Vegetarians can be accommodated with advance notice.
