Our Halloween FUNdraiser for Gleaner's Community Kitchen was a riot and a success! Thanks to all who donated! I love doing this each year for local charities & receive a lot of personal reward that is priceless. I often tell people the universe pays me just as much as any paycheck does and bringing community together like this is a perfect example.  Save the date for the 5th Annual: Oct 24, 2014! Have a safe and Happy Halloween & remember to set clocks back Sat night!

Scary Stories in the Dark. Tue Oct 29, 7pm Are you ready for some hair-raising tales? Only the bravest 3rd-6th graders should dare to join us for this program of bone chilling stories. Come in costume.

  

3×3 Teen Art Contest & Display. Fri. Nov. 1 - Sat Nov. 30. Are you an artist or just a really dedicated doodler? Test your size & scale skills by entering the 3×3 Teen Art Display at Wood Library. Post-It submissions will accumulate on our Teen Scene display board throughout the month of November. Prizes awarded for best middle school and high school submission. Click here for more details!

World Diabetes Day Community Forum Nov. 14

In partnership with St. Benedict Parish of Ontario County, F.F. Thompson Hospital at 350 Parrish St. will host its 8th annual World Diabetes Day community forum on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the hospital's Constellation Center for Health and Healing.  The event begins at 4:15 p.m. with registration, health screenings and exhibits. A light dinner at 5 p.m. will be followed by experts from Thompson Health's Sleep Disorders Center discussing the link between diabetes and sleep disorders.The event will conclude with a panel discussion, "Diabetes Management: It Takes a Team," featuring a dietitian, dentist, pharmacist, physical therapist and sleep technicians.  In lieu of a program fee, donations of non-perishable items for the Blue Star Canteen of Canandaigua will be gratefully accepted at the event.

Thompson's Free 'Oh, My Healthy Back' Class

Oh, My Healthy Back" (teaching those w/lower back pain about their spine and management of pain) is Wed, Nov. 13, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Thompson Conference Center on the lower level of F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua. 

 

Physical therapists & certified mechanical diagnostic therapists discuss spinal anatomy, spinal conditions, theories about lower back pain & basic management techniques.  Designed for the person w/occasional back pain, seminar is not intended to substitute for medical care.  RSVP is required (396-6111) for this free program.

FLCC Music Faculty To Offer FREE Fall Concert! Finger Lakes Community College faculty will perform a wide range of original works and familiar music at the fall Faculty Recital on Thur, Nov 7, 7pm in the auditorium at the main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua. Entry is free and open to the public. Here are some of the concert selections:

 

David McGuire of Rochester, professor of music, will present two new compositions called "Prayer Machine" & "Ein feste Burg: Variations on a Bach Chorale." Guitar faculty member Dennis Repino of Canandaigua, half of The Rochester Guitar Duo with Tim Shannon, will perform arrangements of two Beatles songs. Craig Snyder of Canandaigua, who teaches jazz guitar at the college, will play two jazz standards with FLCC music student Paul Lagraff of Rochester. Voice instructor Deborah Conquest of Pittsford will also perform, accompanied by Ines Draskovic of Brighton, assistant professor of music.
