Greetings!

Pride.

It unifies us.

Pride in our team causes thousands to wrap themselves in orange or crimson and brave the elements to cheer them on.

Pride in our family causes us to share hundreds of pictures of our kids on Facebook from one piano recital.

Pride in our brand of truck, smart phone, or soft drink will cause us to defend them against any who speaks ill of them.

And Pride in our community unites us in a way that causes us to rip off the gloves, throw down the gauntlet, and go to the mattresses in order to defend her against someone who might say something negative about her.

Pride is a motivator and in many cases it defines us.

But where does Pride come from?

You can't have Pride in something that constantly disappoints you.

You have Pride in a Chevy pickup because you like the way it runs.

You have Pride in your Iphone because it works.

You have Pride in the Thunder because they are a class act and tend to win a lot.

And you have Pride in your kids when someone else recognizes them for a special achievement or action.

This week...Oklahomans have Pride in our state.

We've helped tear through debris to help neighbors and friends.

We've collected supplies.

We've donated money.

We've donated blood.

And we've prayed for healing until our temples hurt.

I'm proud of my state.

But to be honest with you...this Oklahoma Pride has been building for some time now.

I think that Oklahoma Pride started when the survivors of the Trail of Tears finally made it here to their destination.

It further developed when the "winners" in the land runs staked their claim and dared anyone to come try and take their land from them.

Pride became our mantra as our team in blue and orange played for the NBA Championship last year.

We've had one of the fastest growing economies in the nation over the past few years, have had one of the lowest unemployment rates, and have continued to put money into our state's rainy day account.

We stand up for each other in the face of wildfires, evil men with U-Haul trucks, and funnels that fall from the ski.  We are a united community because we have been forged in the fire together.

I have never had more Oklahoma Pride than I do right now.

Thank you Oklahoma for continuing to impress.

KOCH Nitrogen to invest $1 Billion in Enid

Koch Nitrogen Company, LLC is moving forward with plans to build a new urea plant at its Enid, Oklahoma facility. In addition, the company is revamping existing production processes at the facility. Combined, the investments are estimated at $1 billion and are expected to increase fertilizer production at the facility by more than 1 million tons per year. The improvements to existing processes will be implemented in stages from 2014-2016. Construction on the new plant, which will include additional storage and enhanced loading facilities, is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2014. The plant is projected to be operational in 2016.   Read More...

Northstar Agri Industries MAPC Approved
Metropolitan Area Planning Commission commissioners approved rezoning about 400 acres of land for a proposed Northstar Agri Industries canola plant.

MAPC members recommended, and the city commission in January approved, a tax increment finance district to fund incentives for the plant and infrastructure improvements to support its construction and operation.

The canola plant is expected to be operational by March 2015 and employ 55 workers with an annual payroll of $3.75 million.

The canola plant development will cost about $200 million and will include a five-mile rail loop.

Sales Tax Up Again...

Enid continued to enjoy robust retail sales early this year, based on April sales tax distributions to cities and towns from Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The current figures represent local tax receipts from spending in late February and early March. Net taxable sales in Enid during that period were more than $6 million higher compared to the same period in 2012.

According to OTC figures, net taxable sales in Enid during the period were up 9.5 percent over sales during the same period in 2012, continuing a strong series of reports for the past two years.  More...

Housing Study in Enid the area
Enid Regional Development Alliance is working with a Houston-based company to conduct a housing study in Enid.

CDS Market Research has conducted similar studies in Pryor, Ardmore and Ponca City and worked with Oklahoma City and Tulsa, ERDA Executive Director Brent Kisling said.

The housing study is meant to help ERDA avoid another "choke point" for the growth of business and bringing new business to the area.

"Part of our responsibility with ERDA is to bring new companies to town and help local companies expand," Kisling said. "We're also trying to identify what those choke points are (that are) preventing growth or keeping businesses out of Enid."   Read more...

Enid Summer Achievers Program
ERDA is kicking off it's inaugural year of the Enid Summer Achiever's Program (ESAP).  The Enid Summer Achiever's Program has recruited over 20 college interns to work in over 14 Enid area businesses for the summer.  Thanks to a partnership with Northern Oklahoma College, we are able to use on campus apartments to provide housing, free of charge, to these students.  A welcome lunch hosted by the City of Enid, has been planned with the participating businesses, City Council members, and the ERDA Board of Directors.  Group activities and other events will be planned over the summer to provide these interns an opportunity to get involved in the community.
