Phila MRA/AMA Joint Networking Event Review

Insight & Analytics in the Age of Big Data

Rajesh Bhai, Marketing Systems Group

The MRA & AMA April Event was the first time either organization had the opportunity to hold an event at the Comcast Center.  The evening started with networking on the 45th floor and amazing views of South Philly. Attendees then made their way to the other end of the floor where the panel was setup overlooking northeast philly.  Moderator Lisa Dezutti, of Marketing Connections Inc., kept the conversation flowing and engaging.  Panelists included Kathleen Brunner (Acumen Analytics), Aaron Maass (Maas Media), and Jim Multari (Comcast).  The panel discussion focused on tips for sifting through volumes of data to identify meaningful information & understanding the tools and techniques available to aid in data  analytics.  Towards the end, the discussion focused on how traditional market research can lend insight and meaning to analytics. Everyone was in agreement that the venue and topic were a great success!

We look forward to hosting another joint event with AMA in the upcoming year!

Member Spotlight -  Nick Urda, Reckner Healthcare

Interview with Nick Urda, Account Manager, Reckner Healthcare.

Tell us a little bit about your company?

I am the Account Manager for Reckner Healthcare. For more than 20 years, we have served market research agencies, providing global healthcare fieldwork solutions for the pharmaceutical, medical and healthcare industries. Our healthcare panel is the most trusted in the industry and includes physicians, allied HCPs, payers, administration and healthcare decision-makers which are used for both online and qualitative studies.

How did you get involved with Market Research?

After college, my first job was in media.  A friend of a friend had a job opening at an MR firm and told me about it.  I checked it out and the rest is history.

Why did you join the MRA?

I actually started back when I was living in NYC.  I would go to all of the events, which was great to network and learn more about the industry.  Since moving to Philly I try to do the same

What is your favorite Philadelphia area/activity?

I have always loved Old City, even before I moved here.  When I decided to come to Philly, Old City was the only place I wanted to live, and I have been here since.  Though I am still a diehard New York sports fan, I do attend as many sporting events (my fiancé works for the Sixers), concerts or festivals that I could.  There is always something going on.

What are your hobbies?

Right now, it seems like wedding planning.  Other than that, I always like to do anything with family and friends, and also like to stay as active as possible, whether it is running, playing volleyball, softball or any other silly league here in Philly.

Recipe Box

Each newsletter will feature a special recipe from one of our members.  For this newsletter, Angele Surault, of CETRA Language Solutions, provided the following recipe which was enjoyed at the first annual International Translation Day Buffet at CETRA, on September 30, 2010

The following recipes all come from

Extending the Table: A World Community Cookbook

by Joetta Handrich Schlabach.

Supu ya Karanga (Kenyan Peanut Soup)

Combine in heavy 2-3 qt. saucepan:

1 qt. chicken or beef stock

1 medium onion, chopped

1 large leek, with 2 inches of top, chopped

2 medium carrots, sliced

Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 30 minutes.

Remove from heat and puree until smooth.

Return soup to saucepan and add:

1/4 cup uncooked rice

1-inch piece of dried hot red chili (or more, according to taste)

1/2 tsp. salt

Bring to a boil. Simmer, covered, 15-20 minutes until rice is tender.

In a small bowl, mix until blended:

1/2 cup of the soup

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

Stir peanut mixture into soup along with:

1 tsp. Tabasco pepper sauce (optional)

Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Remove the dried chili. Thin with water if too thick, and add salt to taste.
