Welcome to
The Morning Star Update!

Wow! I have really big news for this month, but it is difficult to know how to share it. So here goes. We have just listed the bed and breakfast for sale, either as a private residence or as a business. We love our guests - we've had about 18,000! - and have enjoyed our 19 years operating the B&B tremendously. Yes, it has been 19 years! Now it is time for new things and we are excited to discover what those things are going to be. At least one of those things is renovating and redecorating another house. What else is in store? We shall have to wait and see. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has stayed with us ... and please come and stay with us again! We are keeping The Morning Star open while it is on the market. For great pictures and more information about the listing go to 617HoustonStreet.com. Tim Forcade did an amazing job photographing the house for that website for us, and I couldn't help but sneak in a few of my own photos. Thank you again for being a fan of The Morning Star! You mean so much to us!

The Soul of The Morning Star
Everyone has their favorite room in the house and mine is the kitchen. I poured my heart into its design and believe me, it is a fabulous place to cook. (Photo credit: Tim Forcade)

The Perennial Garden
Here in North Central Kansas, we have a long growing season, favorable to perennial gardens - if one makes the right plant choices. Our gardens at The Morning Star typically bloom from mid to late April through mid to late November. Right now, the summer garden is in full swing with Asiatic lilies and daylilies in bloom. ('Kiss Me Kate' Asiatic lilies, of which we have about 50, are pictured in the foreground above with 'Neon Flash' spireas in the background.) Ooh, we love the gardens!

As always, thank you for reading The Morning Star Update! I look forward to hearing from - or seeing you - soon.
Happy June! Happy Summer!
Sincerely,
Laurie Pieper

Rosés for Summer
| A lot of people think of white wines for summer, but forget about rosés. While white wines can be just right for the occasion, rosés can help add variety. Rosés vary in color from the palest apricot pink to the deepest pink; and they range from dry and crisp to fairly sweet. So there are rosés available for all tastes. (For drier rosés, generally look for European wines.) Rosés are generally served lightly to well chilled and go well with seafood, pastas, cheeses, and lighter meat and lighter vegetable dishes. Sweeter rosés can be served with fruits and desserts. Saluté!

Father's Day
| Happy Father's Day. Book a room for Dad on June 20th or 21st and we'll put a pair of Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcakes in his room! Delicious!
