Welcome to
The Morning Star Update!

I hope that you had a fabulous Thanksgiving! After all of the anticipation, the holiday season is now officially underway, which is fun, but can also be really exhausting. So I decided to share some of my easy-to-make recipes that are great for the winter months and holidays. I have to confess, working on this issue of The Update, made me really hungry. It's a good thing that that I've been cooking! May your December be full of good cheer and happy times.

Fire Roasted Tomato Minestrone

This is a dish that I love to make in the winter ... and it is delicious enough to serve as a vegetarian entrée around the holidays. I like to keep prepared soffritto (onions, celery and carrots sautéed in olive oil) in the refrigerator around this time of year, which makes preparing this stew-like soup a snap. Here is the recipe.

Bordeaux Cranberry Compote

It sometimes seems as though between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, I want to serve cranberries with just about everything. Here is a delicious cranberry recipe to serve as a tangy-sweet side dish with roasted meats or vegetables or as a breakfast topping. Yum!
North Pole Cupcakes

These festive chocolatey-peppermint cheesecake cupcakes have an Oreo cookie base and can be made ahead of time and frozen to make holiday preparations easier - or just to have around for taste bud pick-me-ups! Enjoy the recipe
Have a wonderful December and a Happy Holidays! Thank you for reading The Morning Star Update!

Sincerely,

Laurie Pieper

A Time for Movies
One of our favorite things to do around the holidays is watch movies - holiday movies, new films, and old favorites that we have seen time and time again. Do you have movies to recommend? We'd love to know what ones you love!
Limoncello
On my to-do-list is "make Limoncello for the holidays." Here are links to  them in case you missed my recipes for Limoncello and Limoncello Sorbet last year. They are definitely worth making again! Do you have a favorite way to serve or feature Limoncello?
November's Chill
November's frigid temperatures put the garden to rest for the winter. I was able to catch a few last images for the season, but every winter I go through a bit of garden-withdrawl. I've already ordered flowers for our Christmas table: red roses, pink protea and white lilies with boxwood greens. They should be pretty and last well. I am already looking forward to seeing them!
