The Morning Star Update!
|
|
Phew! I think that we are finally past all late-in-the-season frosts and freezes. Last year we had snow at this time! What a fluke! But this year, it looks like spring from here on out ... that is until summer! Our irises have just started to bloom and lots of buds are beginning to appear. So, it looks like they are on schedule to be at their peak just in time for Mother's Day and K-State graduations. I love it when that happens. It is hard to believe that graduation weekend is nearly upon us. That means that summer will be here shortly. I'm not sure that I am quite ready for that. What about you?

Time to Visit the Konza
I took a morning recently to go out to the Konza to do some photography.
View photos. It was wonderful to see all of the redbuds in bloom. Though the redbuds are probably just finishing up, Spring is a beautiful time to visit the Konza Prairie. I saw a few wild flowers starting to bloom. By the end of the month, there should be a lot to see. With its gentle walking trails and scenic vistas, the Konza is a wonderful place to get out in nature. Do you have favorite places to go walking in this area?

Where'd You Go, Bernadette
by Maria Semple
I have to confess. I am one of those people who judge books by their cover. So when Marilyn from Kansas left Where'd You Go, Bernadette behind for me to read, I was initially inclined to be skeptical. It just didn't have a "Laurie cover." However, Marilyn and I always have a great time chatting over breakfast whenever she stays with us, and so I decided to give it a read - and I read it straight through in one pleasant day. (Thanks for the book, Marilyn!) Where'd You Go, Bernadette is an entertainingly, darkly comedic novel about dysfunctional adults in this age of competitive parenting that we live in. The title character, Bernadette, has adopted some particularly maladaptive behaviors; but yet when Bernadette disappears, what we learn during her daughter's search for her invites the reader to question initial judgements about sanity, craziness, and fitting in. Do you have any books to recommend?

White Chocolate Citrus Bars
These bars are a pleasant balance of tart and sweet, soft and crisp. They'd be a pleasant treat for Mother's Day! Here's the recipe. Enjoy!

Changing Seasons
|
I just took this picture before breakfast this morning. These are the last of our tulips for the season. They are French Single Late Tulips which, as the name suggests, are late to bloom; and they have gracious tall stems. It's sad to see tulip season over - they are such beautiful flowers. But not to worry ... our irises are just getting started!
