MEMBER NEWS:

PNWA deeply mourns the loss of two fine writers and members of our community this past summer.

Jane Lotter passed away on July 18. Incredibly, she wrote her own obituary for the Seattle Times, available here. The New York Times also featured a lovely piece last month on her life.

Jane's debut comic novel, The Bette Davis Club, was released shortly before her death and is now available in a quality paperback version or as an e-book on Amazon.com.  It is also available as a paperback on BarnesandNoble.com. The Bette Davis Club was a first place winner in PNWA's 2009 Literary Contest.

---

We also mourn the passing of Jeanette Cameron Keil. Jeanette was an insightful, valued member of a critique group that meets regularly at the Writers' Cottage. Her obituary in the Kitsap Sun can be found here. She was a cherished friend to many and a wonderful writer.

Both Jane and Jeanette will be sorely missed.

---

PNWA members Vance Pumphrey and Ron Reid
have started a writers' support/critique group in the North area, titled Northlake Fantasy & Science Fiction Writer's Guild. They will be meeting the first Tuesday of each month (tentative schedule).

The group is available on Meetup.com, or prospective members may contact Vance directly at:  Pumphrey-v@comcast.net.

PNWA member Michael Oborn is pleased to announce that his novel, The Complete Mystery of Matthew Alcott, received an Honorable Mention in the 2013 Readers' Favorite Book Awards!

Visit Michael at michaeloborn.com.

PNWA member Kay Kenyon announces the publication of her new book, A Thousand Perfect Things. After ten science fiction novels, this is her first fantasy. The book is an epic tale of magic in a re-imagined England and India, when a Victorian woman takes on the scientific establishment, palace intrigues, ghosts and a great mutiny by marshaling the powers of magic. Kay will be signing at a Book For All Seasons in Leavenworth on Sept 7 at 1:00, at the PNBA Fall Trade Show Oct 8 and at several events at OryCon Nov 8-10.

More about Kay's work is available at www.kaykenyon.com.

PNWA member AnneSweazy-Kulju announces, "the bad men from Bodie are here!" The release of Anne's newest historical fiction adventure, Bodie, is a summer read for all ages:

When two small-town sisters, the products of a broken foster care system, learn each other has been having the same recurring dream for years, they see a regression therapist to learn more. When the dream exposes shocking secrets and a century-old murder that happened in the most violent town in America's history, 'goodbye, God!' They're going to Bodie, in the California desert... and it just might get them killed. Based on a true story.

Bodie releases officially on September 17, 2013. Anne's publisher has made pre-release copies available through Tate Publishing's website, and on the author's own website @ www.Historical-Horse-Feathers.com. PNWA member Linda Moore Kurth has recently published four booklets on Kindle:

Cousin Jimmy: A True Tale More or LessA down-home tall tale about Cousin Jimmy, a real-life character. From tipping over multiple church benches during service, to picking up cows, he had a one-of-a-kind personality. Reminiscent of Garrison Keillor's storytelling.

PNWA member Bonnie J. Hardy and her husband, Norman E. Hardy, are pleased to announce the publication of their new nonfiction book, Aging Loved Ones: A Guide to Organizing and Managing the Aging Process. Aging is a very personal process for every human being. Progressing into old age, however, creates a challenge, not just for the individual, but the family, partners, friends, and society. This guide will enable anyone charged with the responsibility of managing the aging process to gain an understanding of what may lie ahead, explore a variety of coping options, and avoid time-consuming and potentially expensive traps. Complementing the text, this guide includes access to a number of information collection sheets that enable the reader to capture pertinent details specific to their unique situation. As the reader moves through this process, they will compile a comprehensive package of information that reflects the evolving behaviors, abilities, and wishes of their loved one and serves as well to support timely and appropriate decision making throughout the aging process. You can access either Bonnie or Norm via their website: HardyWilsonInk.com
