PNWA NEWS:
February Member Workshop and Meeting (Please note that our regular member meetings have a new name as well as a new time: typically the second Thursday of each month.) Thursday, February 9, 2012 @ 7pm (board meeting starts @ 6pm) Chinook Middle School 2001 98th Ave NE Bellevue, WA 98004 Speaker: Gerri Russell Topic: Formatting for Self-Publishing Formatting for Self-Publishing provides detailed information on how to self-publish for unpublished and published authors alike. This is a "how to" workshop, not a "should I do it" workshop. Gerri will discuss how to prepare your manuscript for conversion, then take you through the steps for producing a converted document for Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords. It's a must for anyone considering self-publishing their backlist or any work that might not have been mainstream enough for New York. Gerri Russell has done it all when it comes to writing; she's worked as a broadcast journalist, newspaper reporter, magazine columnist, technical writer, editor, and instructional designer, which all finally led her to follow her heart's desire of being a romance novelist. Gerri is the award-winning author of six novels and one novella. She is best known for her adventurous and emotionally intense novels set in the 13th and 14th century Scottish Highlands. Gerri is a two-time recipient of the Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart award and winner of the American Title II competition sponsored by Dorchester Publishing and RT BOOKreviews Magazine.

CLASSES/WORKSHOPS:
Big Sur Writing Workshops:
Children's Books, from Picture Books to YA Fiction
March 2 - 4, 2012 in Seaside/Monterey
For the past fourteen years, writers have come to the Big Sur Writing Workshops for an intensive weekend of working on manuscripts with publishing professionals who are dedicated to helping new writers. The workshops are designed for writers who have a finished or partially finished manuscript that needs critiquing, revisions, editorial help and guidance. Our workshop provides the tools needed to prepare one's work for publication as manuscripts must be totally polished to sell in this tight market. The format of the weekend program is different from other conferences and workshops. Writers meet and work closely with at least three faculty members throughout the weekend, from agents to editors to authors. The ratio of faculty to writers is five to one or better. No two writers have the same experience and it is the unique nature of our workshop that has made it so popular that a large number of attendees return year after year.
