A finalist in last year's PNWA Literary Contest, PNWA member James E. Lalonde's novel Holotar: Last Queen of the White Shamans is now available on Kindle, Nook and most other e-readers. "It's an e-book, but I feel like the 'Paperback Writer' in the Beatles' song," says James, who spent three years on this, his debut novel, including a year working with the homeless and mentally ill in Seattle shelters. It's the tale of a Seattle street kid nicknamed "Pinball," who has a gift for games - and for "Googling minds," a talent his teen shelter shrink dismisses as mere schizophrenia. When Pinball is lured into testing a new monster-filled holographic video game, the quest turns real. It's is an urban fantasy novel with a "twist of horror," about the consequences of creating and unleashing real and imagined video game monsters. James received the William T. Costello Poetry Award while at Gonzaga University, and he is a finalist in the 2011 Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest for Poetry.

PNWA Member Kathleen O'Brien announces the release of her novel A Light in the Heart by Plicata Press. When an auto accident in a Boston suburb leaves 33-year-old model Christine McMurray's face, hands and torso disfigured and one leg with multiple fractures, she must rethink her identity. Christine struggles with a controlling father who pushed her into beauty pageants from early childhood, a soon to be former fiancé and her reluctance to believe a photographer with whom she once had a fling still finds her attractive. This complex novel of loss, betrayal and ultimately rebirth is set in Montana and on Cape Cod. Bestselling author Jacquelyn Mitchard said of A Light in the Heart: " ...(It) bursts with humanity, exploring the pitfalls of the pursuit of personal perfection, while reminding every reader that a rich life comprises luck, both kinds. Perhaps most poignantly, it is a story that reminds us that the places of our human lives are not scenery and that the uphill roads lead home."
