when you've finished and exchange it for another! We
reserve the right to accept or reject books brought in for exchange. After the weekend of October 1, the Book
Exchange will be held every Friday and Saturday from 11am to 2pm. We also encourage members to donate a copy or
two of their own book(s) to our Book Exchange library. Beginning
in mid-October, PNWA members will also have the opportunity to sell, sign, and
showcase their published works at our Cottage. Sign up for a FREE block of time (table included) at our relaxed and
intimate Saturday signing sessions. PNWA will handle the FREE advertising for
your event! You provide the books and
handle the sales thereof. The
Writers' Cottage is located in historic Gilman Village
just a few blocks from I-90 and is the perfect spot for your next book
signing. Plus, close proximity to a wide
variety of picturesque shops and restaurants means that there is plenty of foot

Humanities magazine is seeking submissions for the spring 2011 Issue on the
theme "Fail." We're interested in nonfiction writing that explores bad ideas,
mistakes, and fiascos, as well as the notion of failure in our culture and,
conversely, success. We are particularly interested in writing that explores
this theme in history, literature, art, politics, and other disciplines of the humanities.
We appreciate submissions that include Oregon
sources, stories, and locales, but will also consider work that explores failure
and success in broader and more universal ways. We welcome
all forms of nonfiction writing, including scholarly essays, personal essays,
and journalistic articles. We accept proposals and drafts of scholarly and
journalistic features, which range between 2,500 and 4,000 words in length. We
accept drafts only of fully developed personal essays that consider larger
thematic questions; essay submissions should run no longer than 2,000 words.
All contributors receive an honorarium. If you are
interested in contributing to this issue, please visit our website (http://oregonhumanities.org)
to read the current issue and the guidelines for writers. Then, submit a
