Dear Carolina parent,

Summer is here, which means students are engaged in a variety of classes, internships, summer jobs, study abroad trips and other summer experiences. We hope you have plans to spend quality time with your student!

If your student is enrolled in summer school or completing an internship, he or she may have a hard time balancing the fun of summer with the expectations of work. Continue to discuss with your student the importance of balance and taking personal responsibility.

Encourage your student to save a portion of his or her summer job earnings. If he or she is resistant to saving, talk about how nice it will be to have some extra spending money in the upcoming year!

Even though summer has arrived, we are still here for you! Please continue to call the Parents Assistance Line at 1-800-868-6752 or send an email to [email protected]

Welcome new families!
Meet Parents Programs staff at orientation
Welcome to the Carolina family! The Office of Parents Programs looks forward to meeting you at orientation this summer. We encourage all parents of new first-year and transfer students who attend orientation to visit our table at the Resource Fair in the Russell House Ballroom to pick up your mom and dad car decals, learn about Parents Weekend and view some of our publications! We are happy to answer questions and always look forward to meeting new parents. Also, we will share more information about using Parents Programs as your resource at Carolina during the closing session.

All parents/family members who register to attend orientation will automatically be added to the Parents Association list to receive this monthly parent e-newsletter and other important university updates. If you would like to add additional family members, please click here to sign up for the dues-free Parents Association. The Parents Association is the best way for you to stay connected to Carolina! University Housing information
University Housing will begin sending out Move-In Guides this month. This guide provides information on your student's living and learning community, building assignment and more information regarding move-in. Information regarding room/roommate assignments will be available on Self Service Carolina in mid-July. Your student should look out for a large garnet envelope in the mail, and encourage him or her to post a picture with the envelope on social media with the hashtag #UofSCHOME. University Housing is excited for your student to call UofSC "home" this fall!

Immunization information must be submitted before orientation
Diseases like meningitis, measles and tuberculosis are still being spread in the U.S. Immunizations and testing protect our students from the terrible side effects of these diseases. For the safety of your student and others, turn in the completed immunization record form as soon as possible. Click here for more information about the importance of immunizations for college students.

Until your student turns in his or her complete immunization records, he or she can experience delays in registering for classes during orientation and will not be allowed to move into his or her residence hall in August. His or her classes also will be dropped on the first day of class if the records are not received. Students can receive immunizations at the Thomson Student Health Center  at a minimal cost.

Pillars for Carolina
Pillars for Carolina is a five-day, high-energy summer program for first-year students! Your student can join others in the Class of 2019 for an exceptional Gamecock experience! Pillars for Carolina gives first-year students a unique opportunity to explore Carolina and learn about student life before arriving on campus for the fall semester. Students get a head start on making Carolina home and have an unforgettable week of service, leadership and traditions while making lifelong friends.

The program runs July 14-18. Registration closes July 1 and is available here. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged! You can find a list of frequently asked questions including the cost of the program here

News from the Bursar
Payment deadline for Fall 2015
Tuition and fees are due by 5 p.m. on August 12Bills will be available via Self Service Carolina (SSC) in mid-July. Students can get an idea of their fall billing by reviewing the 2014-2015 tuition and fee schedule. These rates are subject to change, and information for the 2015-2016 academic term will be posted following the Board of Trustees budget approval in late June.

College savings plans
Students who will use 529 education savings and trust funds should send a copy of their tuition statement to their plan administrator as soon as possible to ensure funds are disbursed and received before the deadline. Payment plan options are available if needed and can be processed via SSC. Please note that payment is due immediately for students who register after the payment deadline
