Stanley "Bud" & Marilyn White
Diabetes Assistance Endowment
Stanley "Bud" White and Marilyn Woodmansee were married on February 27, 1939 in Falmouth, Kentucky. They went on to have one daughter, Stanlee (husband Henry Weller) and one son, David (wife Paula). They also had seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The couple had been married for 72 years when Marilyn passed away on December 15, 2011.
Following in his father's footsteps, Bud was an auctioneer and livestock dealer beginning in 1937 until he passed May 21, 2013. He played an important part in the agricultural community in numerous states. Marilyn worked with her family at White's Sale Barn in Brookville. She also played bridge in several clubs and was a member of Blooming Grove Methodist Church.
With memorial contributions, the Stanley "Bud" & Marilyn White Diabetes Assistance Endowment has been established in the Franklin County Community Foundation. Income from the endowment will be used to provide educational assistance in the form of scholarships to current college students who are residents of Franklin County.
Applicants for the scholarship must have Type 1 diabetes and require insulin for treatment. Marilyn, as well as one of the couple's great-granddaughters, was diagnosed with diabetes. The family saw the struggles that they both had to go through in their lives and would like to be able to help other individuals in similar situations, especially as they attend college.
For more information on the Stanley "Bud" & Marilyn White Diabetes Assistance Endowment or to contribute, contact the FCCF at 527 Main Street, Brookville or email at fcfoundation@yahoo.com.

Harvest Time: Watch Out for Deer
Each fall the annual crop harvest, along with the beginning of hunting season on October 1, makes deer movement more prominent with a resulting increase in the number of car/deer crashes. Motorists are reminded to use extra caution when driving in rural areas of Indiana.
Deer are generally more active in the early morning (pre-dawn) hours or the hours just after dusk. They also become more active during late October into early November during the "rut," or deer-mating season. Because of the crop harvest going on now, deer could be on the move at anytime.
Motorists should take the following precautions when driving in rural areas to avoid having a crash involving a deer.
*When possible use high beam headlights at night and be aware that deer could be standing on or near the side of the roadway.
*Drivers should watch approaching vehicles and observe what may break their headlights beams; it could be a passing deer. This technique allows extra time to slow your speed and be alert for the deer.
*Watch for reflections from the deer's eyes.
*Where there is one deer there are often several. Do not assume you missed the deer because more could follow. BE ALERT!
*If your vehicle strikes a deer do not touch it. A frightened or wounded deer can cause you serious bodily injury. Remain in your car, make sure you and your passengers are safe, and call the police to obtain a crash report for your insurance company. You should report this as you would any other crash.
*Finally, as always, BUCKLE UP!
For more information concerning deer habits, population, and trends in your area contact your local conservation officer or the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife at 317-232-4200, or Facebook at www.facebook.com/INdnr.
