President's Messagepres
Greetings!

I can't believe this busy summer is coming to a close! It's even harder to believe November
Elections are right around the corner! And as busy as we are, as busy as we have been, our
work is not done. Our elected officials and candidates are counting on us to help them in these
final weeks. Block walking, phone banking, supporting their campaigns - it is all more important than ever.

But I also encourage you to think about just talking to your neighbors. Your friends at church, People you come into contact with at the grocery store, the cleaners, the library, the gym. Are they registered to vote? With over a hundred homes sold every week in Williamson County, some of those families are new to the area. They moved here because they like the county the way it is. Republican! It's O.K. to remind them our great county got this way with the help of Republican Leadership. And then, help them get registered to vote!

Our work is not done. Every race is important. Don't slow down now. Together, we can do this.

See you soon!

Presenting
Pastor Rafael Cruz
Monday, September 8th
Rafael Cruz

Rafael Cruz is a powerful example of the American Dream. Born in Cuba, Rafael lived and suffered under a cruel, oppressive dictator. He began fighting Batista's regime as a teenager and was imprisoned and tortured because he wanted to be free. Rafael arrived in Texas in 1957 with nothing but the clothes on his back and one hundred dollars sewn into his underwear. He got a job as a dishwasher, making 50 cents an hour, and worked his way through school at the University of Texas, while learning English. He later built a business in further pursuit of the American Dream. Rafael became active in conservative politics as a grassroots activist during the 1980 Presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan. He is an ordained minister, sharing the Word of God in churches and Pastors conferences through out the United States.

August Luncheon Recapaug
By Shannon Tracy
WCRW Public Relations Chair
Our very own Congressman Carter joined us at our August luncheon. Due to the current crisis on the border, he gave an update on the situation saying the number of people now crossing illegally has gone up exponentially since May of 2012. That was when Obama, by executive order, said the US will no longer deport young illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria. To this Carter said "Obama was talking about those people who were already here, the world heard something else."

Quite simply put, Congressman Carter said the solution to the problem is to "enforce the laws."

Carter also spoke very passionately about the status within the GOP and where he believes we are going wrong. "If we don't stop fighting each other and stay fighting the democrats this country will be no longer. If we have 4 more years of a democrat in the White House this country, as we know it, will be no longer and this Party will dissolve."

Congressman Carter signed for dedication to the Round Rock Library David Horowitz's book Take No Prisoners!
null

At the conclusion of his presentation he left us with this, "don't let them (the democrats) take your fighting spirit away with political correctness!"

Thank you Congressman Carter for sharing your time with us.

Membership Update
By Debbie Simmons
WCRW VP Membership
Our 2014 goals have included encouraging Luncheon Attendance and Membership.

In order to pay for the room, the WilcoRW Luncheon must have at least 73 Attendees. August Luncheon Attendees were thanked for helping us reach 60. Please bring a friend and encourage other members to join us for our great programs and connecting with each other monthly.

This year we have had an Election Year Special for our Membership Dues at $20. The WilcoRW pays $15 from each Member's Dues to the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW). The TFRW pays $10 from each Member's Dues to the National Federation of Republican Women. We keep $5 out of the $20 Regular Member Dues and all $20 of Associate Member Dues.

Regular Membership is used by TFRW to determine how many Delegates we can send to the Convention during odd years. In 2014, we have reached 79 Regular Members and 70 Associate Members. We look forward to growing the membership of all Republican groups in the Williamson County area in the next two years!

Caring for Americacaring
By Mary Anne Bose
WCRW Caring for America Chair
Thanks to all of the WCRW members & some other kind individuals, the "Military committee" had monies left over after our wonderful Military Appreciation Luncheon which was held on Monday, July 14, 2014.

The Board met & decided to split this money in half, saving 50 % of it to be used for the 2015 Military Appreciation Luncheon, & the remaining 50 % to be used by our "Caring for America" committee. Since we as a committee & club are focusing on our true American Heroes, the wounded American troops this year, we will be donating that money to the Fisher House at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. The Fisher House provides a place, for immediate family members of these severely wounded men & women, to stay while they are there to help support their loved one who is attempting to recover from catastrophic injuries. Often times these Heroes will be at the Brooks Army Medical Center for medical care & for related therapy. Having family support is so vital to their success with recovery. Once a date has been established for a tour, club members desiring to do so will be invited to join us for a presentation of the check & a tour.

Are You Tracking Your Volunteer Hours?
By Lisa Messana
WCRW Campaign Activities Chair
It is very important for you to track your volunteer hours and report them to our Campaign Activities Chair every quarter.  These hours directly measure the amount of influence our club has in the election process and also helps us qualify for club awards at the TFRW State Convention!

We have not turned in hours this year, so we are collecting the hours you have volunteered beginning on January 1st, 2014.

Something to keep in mind - your travel time to and from the state convention counts as well as your time at the convention. Other activities include time spent block walking, phone banking, and volunteering as a deputy voter registrar.  For a more detailed list of what qualifies as volunteer hours, CLICK HERE.

There will be reporting forms on the tables at the luncheon.

US Flag September seems to be a month that has numerous historical moments. It marked the beginning and the end of wars significant to our countries history. Looking ahead to November not only for the election, but Veterans Day and the establishment of the U.S. Marine Corp, clubs might consider a fund raising project to sell American Flag pins and buying "I Voted" stickers which can be distributed at the meetings in October and November. We cannot forget the role of Samuel Gompers (1850-1924) an English born cigar maker who became instrumental in establishing the American Federation of Labor (AFL) in America beginning in 1886. Don't forget Columbus Day in October.
Flying our Flag:
  • Sept. 01 Labor Day
  • Sept. 02 V-J Day (Commemorate the signing of the Japanese surrender on board USS Missouri - the son of the Japanese interpreter on board ship is living in El Monte, California)
  • Sept. 11 Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance (half staff until sunset)
  • Sept. 17 Constitution and Citizenship Day (the constitution was approved 1787)
  • Sept. 19 POW/MIA Recognition Day
Moments in History:
  • Sept. 03, 1783 The Treaty of Paris was signed ending the Revolutionary War
  • Sept. 04, 1609 The Island of Manhattan was discovered by navigator Henry Hudson
  • Sept. 07, 2014 Grand Parents day
  • Sept. 08, 1900 Hurricane winds struck Galveston, Texas, killing over 8,000 people
  • Sept, 09, 1776 The United States became a new nation and was referred to as America.
  • Sept. 11, 2001 We cannot forget the worst attack on the U.S. as four planes were hijacked and crashed into various targets. Two planes flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one crashed in  a field in Philadelphia and the last one crashed into the Pentagon. The terrorists on board these planes changed the life of Americans forever. Three thousand people were killed in the twin towers on that day.
  • Sept. 13, 1814 The Battle of Fort Henry in Baltimore Harbor was the inspiration to Francis Scott Key to write the verses for the U.S. National Anthem.
  • Sept. 16, 1610 The Mayflower ship departed from England to America.
  • Sept. 22, 1776 Nathan Hale was executed and his last words "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
