EFAC joins The Clinton Foundation and Brookings Institution's Girls CHARGE Initiative

Education for All Children (EFAC) has been selected to join the Girls CHARGE -Collaborative for Harnessing Ambition and Resources for Girls' Education. CHARGE is a collaborative effort between the Clinton Foundation's No Ceilings Initiative and The Brookings Institution's Center for Universal Education; it includes more than 50 organizations championing the work of advancing girls' education worldwide. On September 29, CHARGE announced 13 new partners at the Clinton Global Initiative's annual conference, recognizing EFAC for our success in two key priority areas: access to education programs for girls and transitioning girls to higher education and employment opportunities.

EFAC co-founder Rod Van Sciver shared his thoughts on this new and important partnership, "EFAC is thrilled to be a CHARGE partner. It is only though true collaboration with like-minded organizations that we can all reach our shared goal of seeing the women of this world reach their innate potential."

Students Supporting Students: Climbing the Ngong Hills

Thank you to all who supported the Ngong Hills Climb event on August 29, 2015. With the generosity of sponsors and mentors in the U.S., and friends, family and local fundraising initiatives in Kenya, EFAC students collectively raised $14,620 - enough to fund three and a half new scholarships for 2016 EFAC students! Photos from the festive event can be found on EFAC's album here.

Student Spotlight: Ishmael Muthoka Ngei

Ishmael Muthoka Ngei
Innovative, entrepreneurial and deeply engaged with his home community, Ishmael joined EFAC in 2011 and was selected for his ambition, work ethic and academic promise. As the fifth born in a family of eight, attending secondary school and higher education was something Ishmael had not imagined until his teacher brought him an application for an EFAC scholarship.

Today Ishmael is a student at Taita Taveta University College where he is studying for a Bachelor of Business and Information Technology. Through his community service, Ishmael has volunteered as a teacher and organized students to appeal to local government officials to improve access to water in his home community. Ishmael is a regular mentor to younger EFAC scholars and serves as a role model for many.

He shares some of his own experiences and his perspective as an EFAC scholar on the EFAC blog this month.

Meet the People of EFAC: Beth Wokabi,
Kenya Country Director

Beth Wokabi at EFAC's Bridge to Employment Workshop in 2015
When asked, what she likes most about working with EFAC scholars, Beth shares, "Being able to offer a life-line to children who have no hope. It is humbling to see the transformation in these scholars after a number of years in EFAC. The confidence, poise, and communication skills are all amazing to see."

Beth has been working as an educator for the past 15 years and currently serves as the Chair of the Education Department at African Nazarene University and as the Kenya Country Director for EFAC.  Beth has been involved with EFAC since the early days of 2008 and has been essential in cultivating relationships with partner schools and supporting all aspects of EFAC program delivery.

EFAC couldn't do the work we do without our incredible team of dedicated staff and volunteers in Kenya.
